1)  Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport has opposed the Centre’s decision to privatise six airports, including the recently modernised Chennai and Kolkata airports, this year.

2) Prime suspect in Patna serial blasts died in the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences hospital.

3) AP CM calls for unified State on Formation Day: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday expressed the hope that the State would remain united, as it had achieved substantial progress as a unified entity. He unfurled the national flag and took the salute during the main official function to mark the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day at the NTR stadium.

4) Google launches Nexus 5 with Android 4.4 KitKat priced at $ 349: Google launched a new flagship Android phone , a Nexus 5 made by Korean firm LG which runs the latest version of the mobile operating system dubbed 'KitKat'. The phone, which sports a 5-inch (12.7 cm) high definition display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip and an advanced 8 megapixel rear camera, offers up to 17 hours of talk time and is available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea. It is coming soon to India. The price of the phone starts at $ 349.

5) New Chairman for National Payments Corp: M. Balachandran has been appointed chairman of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), taking over the reins from Infosys’ N. R. Narayana Murthy, who had resigned on July 25.

6) Prime Focus appoints new group COO: Prime Focus has appointed Vikas Rathee, an investment banking and corporate finance professional, as its Group Chief Operating Officer (COO).

7) Chidambaram defends RBI rate hikes: Staving off sharp criticism on the recent rate hikes by the RBI, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, on Friday defended the new RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan’s policy action. However, he also reiterated that the Government’s stance remained pro-growth.

8) India’s first aerospace park ready for take-off: Country’s first aerospace SEZ is all set to take wings in Adhibatla on the outskirts of Hyderabad. About 20 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and a few big players have committed an investment to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore.

9) MCX Stock Exchange (MCX-SX) has appointed Gopal Krishna Pillai IAS (Retd.) as Chairman and Thomas Mathew T., as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. SEBI has approved Pillai’s election as Chairman. Pillai was in the Indian Administrative Service and retired as Home Secretary to the Government of India. He belongs to the Kerala cadre of the 1972 batch of IAS.

10) Microsoft appointed Gurdeep Singh Pall as the corporate vice president of Skype, a popular and free international voiceover and messaging service and Lync communications product. He will replace the Mark Gillett. Gurdeep Singh Pall, 46, born in Chandigarh. He joined in Microsoft Company in January 1990 as a software design engineer.

11) India and Vietnam signed a treaty for transfer of sentenced prisoners languishing in jails in the two countries.

12)  India and Australia are to hold the 3rd round of negotiations to finalise a civil nuclear agreement that could enable the sale of Australian uranium to India, in Delhi during the week beginning November 25, it was announced on Friday.


13) India won Gold in 18th Asian Archery Competition held at Chinese Taipei. Abhishek Verma, Ratan Singh, Sandeep Kumar forming the compound team defeated the Korean trio of Lihong Min, Yong Hee Choi and Jongho Kim 233-231 to win the gold.

1)  Nation paid tribute to the veteran freedom fighter and first Home Minister of Independent India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on his 137th birth anniversary. Born on 31st October, 1875 in Gujarat, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel is also known as the Iron Man Of India. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously in the year 1999.

2) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of Statute of Unity, a 182-metre tall statue of "iron man" Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 138th birth anniversary. The statue will be raised on a small rocky island in the middle of the Narmada riverbed facing Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia. The Statue Of Unity will be double the height of the Statue of Liberty in the USA. Proposed 182 meters (597 ft) monument will be the tallest statue of the world when completed.

3) Petrol cheaper by Rs 1.15/lt; diesel to cost more by Re 0.50/lt: Public sector oil marketing companies on Thursday reduced petrol prices by Rs 1.15 a litre and increased diesel prices by 50 paise a litre both effective midnight of Thursday.

4) India slips to 106th spot in World Prosperity Index: India has slipped by five places to 106th spot, way below neighbouring Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and China in the World Prosperity Index, due largely to its poor ‘safety and security’ environment.

5) S. Masood Ahmed, chief scientist at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), here has won the K.K. Menon Award for 2013. The award instituted by the Geological Society of India recognised his contributions in sedimentary geology.

6) Fodder scam: Lalu Prasad’s bail plea rejected by HC- Jharkhand High Court rejected the bail plea of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, who is serving a five-year sentence at the Birsa Munda Central Jail here after being convicted in a fodder scam case.

7)New York City to raise tobacco buying age to 21: New York city has voted to increase the legal age to 21 for buying tobacco, including cigarettes and e-cigarettes, making it the first major city in the US to institute a minimum smoking age above 19 years.

8) Bharat Joshi is new British Dy High Commissioner: Bharat Joshi is the new British Deputy High Commissioner to be based in Chennai, replacing Mike Nithavrianakis. Born in Croydon in the UK in 1969, Joshi joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1995 and has had diplomatic postings to Gambia, Dhaka, Qatar and Cameroon.

9) Subhas Goswami, director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy appointed as the Director General (DG) of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on 30 October 2013. He will succeed Ajay Chadha, IPS.

10) Pankaj Razdan was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Birla Sun Life Insurance (BSLI), life insurance arm of Aditya Birla Group on 30 October 2013.

11) Saina Nehwal slips to 7th spot in BWF ranking: Second-round exit from French Open Super Series proved costly for Saina Nehwal as the Indian badminton ace continued her downward slide, slipping one more spot to be placed at world number seven in the latest BWF ranking released.

12) Prime Focus has appointed Vikas Rathee, an investment banking and corporate finance professional, as its Group Chief Operating Officer (COO).

13) Sanjiv Kapoor will be joining SpiceJet as the Chief Operating Officer from November 1, the airline said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

14) Northern Railway halts platform ticket sale till November 10: Northern Railway has decided to stop sale of platform tickets at major stations in the city, including at New Delhi station, with immediate effect to avoid over crowding during Diwali and Chhat puja festivals.

15) The Supreme Court today directed the Centre and State governments to pass an order within three months, on giving fixed tenure to civil servants. A bench headed by Justice K S Radhakrishnan said that fixed tenure of bureaucrats will promote professionalism, efficiency and good governance.

16) British Prime Minister David Cameron will come on his third visit to India in last two years on November 14 and will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on key bilateral and regional issues.

17) Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been listed the third most powerful woman as Russian President Vladimir Putin beat President Barack Obama to the top spot on Forbes' list of "The World's Most Powerful People".

1) India’s Srishti Rana crowned Miss Asia Pacific World 2013: 21 -year old Srishti Rana has made the country proud by winning the coveted Miss Asia Pacific 2013 title outclassing 49 other contestants in Korea on Oct 30. Srishti looked gorgeous in a Falguni & Shane gown as she was being crowned by the reigning Miss Asia Pacific World 2012 Himangini Singh Yadu from India.

2) 45 burnt alive as bus catches fire in AP: Forty five passengers were charred to death as a private luxury bus burst into flames after its fuel tank caught fire in Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

3) Aamir Khan honoured in US for Satyameva Jayate: Bollywood actor and talk show host Aamir Khan was among a select group of film personalities honoured here for making a major impact on social issues through cinema. In glittering event held at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington the America Abroad Media (AAM) group feted Aamir Khan along with Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and 2013 Nobel Prize nominee the International Centre on Nonviolent Conflict.

5) Power generation at Kudankulam temporarily suspended: Power generation at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu has been temporarily suspended for the second time in about a week in order to undertake mandatory tests, official sources said.

6) Bangalore tops in radio listenership: Radio listenership is higher in Bangalore compared with other major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.

7) ISRO plans Mars Orbiter launch rehearsal at Sriharikota on 31 October 2013: Ahead of the launch of its Rs 430 crore Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), India’s premier space agency ISRO will on 31 Oct 13 carry out a launch rehearsal at the First Launch Pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre here.PSLV C-25 carrying the Mars Orbiter spacecraft is slated for lift-off at 2.36 p.m. on November 5.

8) Kohli, Dhawan centuries help India to another stunning chase against Australia: India pulled off a sensational six-wicket victory over Australia in the do-or-die sixth cricket one-dayer, riding on Virat Kohli’s brutal unbeaten 115 and Shikhar Dhawan’s blistering century to level the seven-match series 2-2.  Kohli - also hit the third fastest ODI hundred by an Indian from just 61 balls.

10) Syndicate Bank to pay interest on monthly basis: Syndicate Bank has decided to exercise the option of paying interest on a monthly basis from next month, a change from the existing system of quarterly basis. Reserve Bank of India, in its monetary policy on Tuesday, had decided to give banks the option to paying interest on savings deposits and term deposits at intervals shorter than the existing quarterly intervals, since all banks are on core banking platforms.

11) Tata firm in talks with banks for ATM services: Tata Communications Payment Solutions Ltd (TCPSL) is in talks with at least six banks, including two large public sector lenders, for fee-based cash supplies to its Indicash-branded white label ATMs.

12) World’s first bitcoin ATM opens in Canada: The world’s first publicly accessible ATM machine which can exchange digital currency — bitcoins — for any official currency has been launched in Canada by a group of young entrepreneurs.

13) Govt hikes import tariff value of gold: Amid short supply of gold in domestic market during the festival season, the Government hiked the import tariff value of gold to $442 per ten gram in line with global prices of the precious metal.
