Complete list of Australian Open 2016 Winners - PDF Download

*The 2015 Australian Open took place at Melbourne Park, Australia between 18 to 31 January 2016. It was the 104th edition of the Australian Open, and the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.

* Novak Djokovic successfully defended the men's singles title and thus won a record-equaling sixth Australian Open title. Serena Williams was the defending champion in the women's singles but failed to defend her title, losing to Angelique Kerber in the final; by winning, Kerber became the first German player of any gender to win a Grand Slam title since Steffi Graf won her last such title at the 1999 French Open.

Angelique Kerber won Australian Open Women's singles title 2016

* Angelique Kerber became the first German to win a Grand Slam title since her childhood idol Steffi Graf in 1999 when she upset world number one Serena Williams 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to clinch the Australian Open on 30 January 2016.

*  Serena had been seeking her seventh Melbourne Park title and 22nd overall.


* The seventh seeded Kerber, however, was not overawed by the occasion of her first grand slam final, breaking twice in the first set as Williams made 23 unforced errors.

--> Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis beat seventh seeded Czech combination of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka to win Australian Open women's doubles title 2016 on 29 January 2016.
--> Top seeds Sania and Martina, who are on a record winning streak, continued to rule the roost as they defeated the Czech pair 7-6, 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena.
