1) Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis wins trust vote in assembly: The 13-day-old BJP government headed by Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday won the confidence motion in Maharashtra assembly by a voice vote, amid protests by former ally Shiv Sena. As the motion seeking vote of confidence in the BJP government moved by MLA Ashish Shelar was passed in the House where the ruling party is in minority, Shiv Sena MLAs stormed the Well seeking division of votes. "The motion has been passed," speaker Haribhau Bagade announced in the din.

2) BJP's Haribhau Bagde is the new Maharashtra Assembly Speaker: Senior BJP legislator HaribhauBagde was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the speaker of Maharashtra assembly. Bagde's name was announced by protem speaker Jiva Pandu Gavit in the newly-constituted Maharashtra legislative assembly. Bagde, the MLA from Phulambhari in Aurangabad district, was escorted to the speaker's chair by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, NCP leader Ajit Pawar, Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and senior most legislator Ganpatrao Deshmukh of PWP.

3) Public Sector bank employees go on nation wide strike: Banking operations like cheque clearances, cash withdrawals and deposits at public sector bank branches across the country were hit on 12 November 2014 as employee unions went on a nationwide strike to press for a wage revision. Private sector banks including ICICI and HDFC, however, worked normally. Claiming the strike was a success, United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) Convener M V Murali told PTI: "The strike is a clear warning signal to the adamant IBA (Indian Banks' Association) to change its rigid approach and come forward to for a reasonable wage revision."

4) Railways allows 100% FDI in setting up of bio-toilets, laundry facility: Railways has identified toilets as one of the 17 special areas where 100 per cent foreign and private investment can bring about major investments. According to the guidelines approved by the government under its FDI policy, 100 per cent FDI can be utilised in facilities like cleaning up trains and installation of bio-toilets in passenger coaches and setting up of mechanised laundry facilities.

Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, along with other world leaders, including US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gathered in Myanmar's capital to discuss the establishment of an economic community within the regional bloc. ASEAN, established in 1967, groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

1) PM Narendra Modi left for 10-Day visit to Myanmar, Australia and Fiji: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Myanmar on 11 November 2014, from where he will go to Australia and then visit Fiji on his way back home. As he flew out, he has again invited people to share "thoughts and ideas" on his Australia trip. During his 10-day foreign tour, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Canberra after the annual summit of the Group of 20 of the world's biggest developed and emerging economies. The two-day G20 summit will be held in Brisbane from November 15. Mr Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Australia since Rajiv Gandhi did in 1986. He will also be the first Indian premier to visit the south Pacific island nation of Fiji after 33 years; Indira Gandhi had last visited in 1981.

2) National Education Day 2014 celebrated: National Education Day was observed on 11 November 2014 to mark of the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. This National Education Day was 125th birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. During the celebration, President Pranab Mukherjee and other ministers paid floral tributes to Azad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted Azad and described him as scholar, freedom fighter and a man who devoted his life towards nation building. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first education minister of India.

Eighty three women underwent the procedure in five hours at the free sterilisation camp, organised by the Bilaspur district health department on November 8, at the Nemichand Jain hospital.

This was announced by Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of State, Information and Broadcasting, on Tuesday. The Chennai-based actor would be receiving the honour at the 45th International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa from November 20 to 30. Social media was agog with excitement as fans posted messages congratulating their ‘Superstar’, as he is fondly known.

7) Rajiv Mehrishi appointed Finance Secretary: Economic Affairs Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi was named the new finance secretary on Tuesday, succeeding batchmate Arvind Mayaram to both posts. According to norms, the finance secretary’s designation is given to the senior-most of the five secretaries in charge of economic affairs, revenue, expenditure, financial services and disinvestment departments. If there is more than one secretary belonging to the senior-most batch, the finance secretary is chosen based on ranking in the civil list.

The new model is the first Lumia smartphone under Microsoft’s own brand name. The company has released a few Lumia models since it bought Nokia’s phone business this year, but those models still carried the Nokia brand. The Lumia 535 Windows smartphone will have a 5-inch screen, as measured diagonally. It comes with 5-megapixel front and rear cameras, which should snap sharper selfies than typical smartphones.

1) PM Modi launched 'Jeevan Pramaan', a digital life certificate for pensioners: In a huge relief for senior citizens who have to produce Life Certificates each year to continue receiving pension, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday launched "Jeevan Pramaan" – an "Aadhar-based Digital Life Certificate" for pensioners. It is a move that could eventually benefit over a crore pensioners. Launching the certificate, Modi said after the push towards self-certification, this digital life certificate was another enabling mechanism which would benefit the common man. The proposed digital certification will do away with the requirement of a pensioner having to submit a physical Life Certificate in November each year, in order to ensure continuity of pension being credited into his account. 

2) Jnanpith award conferred on Hindi poet Kedarnath Singh: President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday conferred 49th Jnanpith award 2013 on eminent Hindi poet Kedarnath Singh for his outstanding contribution towards Indian literature. "Kedarnath Singh, through his poetry, has offered us a rare assimilation of rhymes and lyrical prose, exploring both the realms of reality and fantasy with equal felicity. His poetry presents a collage of meaning, colours and acceptance" Mukherjee said. The Jnanpith award, was institutionalised by philanthropist couple Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain and Late Rama Jain, to recognise and award Indian authors for their contribution to Indian literature.

3) Govt unveiled draft aviation policy: Terming UPA's aviation policy as opaque, govt on Monday brought in a fresh draft recommending listing of state-run Airports Authority of India and chopper firm Pawan Hans on stock exchanges and steps to beef up Air India operations, hinting at its stake sale too. Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Monday unveiled the draft civil aviation policy which also proposes to enhance regional air connectivity, develop six major metro airports as international hubs, create more airports through PPP mode, rationalise jet fuel cost, promote air cargo, MRO and helicopter operations and improve passenger facilitation. The rule, which allows an Indian airline to fly abroad only after they have flown domestic for five years and have a 20-aircraft fleet, would also be reviewed, he said.

His appointment was confirmed by the Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for the post of Chairman, National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention. Sandhu is a 1980 Rajasthan cadre IAS officer.  Prior to this, he was serving as the financial services secretary in the Union Finance Ministry.

With a view to streamlining the regulations for the sector, the RBI also revoked temporary suspension on issuance of Certificate of Registration (CoR) to companies that want to conduct business of non-banking financial institution (NBFI).

"The Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) is successfully flight tested against a flying target in a range in Israel, today," an official statement said. The LRSAM system is jointly developed by DRDO and IAI Israel.
