1) IMF chief Christine Lagarde started India visit:
--> Christine Lagarde, the chief of the International Monetary Fund began her 2-day trip to India on 16 March 2015 during which she is likely to meet the country's top leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
--> Christine Lagarde has lauded the Narendra Modi government's 'Make in India' campaign and called the country a "bright spot" on a cloudy global horizon, saying India has the potential to double the size of its economy by 2019 compared to 2009.
--> Lagarde, the first women to head IMF, said that the budget for 2015-16 was a step in the right direction but added that while increasing public spending in infrastructure was a critical thing more needed to be done to pull in additional private investment.

2) Aadhar not mandatory for availing govt benefits: Supreme Court
--> Supreme Court on 16 March 2015 reiterated its stand that Aadhar cards will not be mandatory for availing government benefits including subsidies.
--> The top court asked the Centre to follow its 2013 order on the issue.
--> The apex court had in October 2013 refused to make Aadhar card compulsory for availing social benefits, turning down Centre's request on the issue. 

3) India's new hockey coach Paul van Ass took charge:
--> Paul van Ass took charge as chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team on 16 March 2015.
--> Van Ass, known for his outspoken and controversial nature, had replaced Australian Terry Walsh under whom India won the Incheon Asian Games to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
--> Van Ass had been handed a contract till the 2018 World Cup by his new employer, the Sports Authority of India.
--> Prior to this he was the coach of Netherlands.

4) Wipro appointed Neemuchwala as group president, COO:
--> Wipro has appointed TCS veteran Abid Ali Neemuchwala as group president and chief operating office.
--> This appointment will be effective from 1 April 2015.
--> Neemuchwala in his new role will head Wipro’s service lines of global infrastructure services, business application services, business process services and advanced technology solutions.
--> Prior to this appointment, Ali Neemuchwala was heading BPO arm of India’s largest software services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

5) Haryana assembly passed bill banning Cow Slaughter:
--> Haryana Assembly on 16 MArch 2015 unanimously passed a bill under which cow slaughter and the sale of beef have been banned in the state.
--> The new law will also promote conservation and development of indigenous breeds of cows and establish institutions to keep, maintain and take care of the infirm, injured, stray and uneconomic cows.
--> As per the Haryana 'Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan' Bill, 2015, which was passed with two amendments, a person found guilty of cow slaughter can get rigorous imprisonment not less than three years, which may extend upto 10 years along with a fine ranging from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 1 lakh.

6) Veteran singer Bombay S Kamal passed away:
--> Veteran singer and music composer Bombay S. Kamal, an active presence in the field of music for the past six decades, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on 16 March 2015.
--> In past six decades, he had active presence in the field of music especially in Malayalam film music.
--> Mr. Kamal, who was born in Mumbai, had been singing the songs of Mohammed Rafi from the age of seven, after a meeting with veteran Ustad Moin Khan introduced him to his first strains of music.
--> He settled in Kerala after an acquaintance with iconic composer M.S. Baburaj.

7) Ashu Suyash to took over as Crisil CEO in place of Roopa Kudva:
--> Ashu Suyash on 16 March 2015 quit as chief executive of L&T Investment Management Ltd to head ratings agency Crisil Ltd, marking the exit of the only woman to head an asset management company in Asia’s third-biggest economy.
--> Suyash takes over from Roopa Kudva as the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Crisil with effect from 1 June, Crisil said.

8) China displaced Germany as world's third largest arms exporter:
--> China has raced ahead of Germany to become the world's third largest arms exporter as per Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report. 

--> SIPRI in its report claimed that exports of arms from China grew 143% between 2010 and 2014.

1) Services beat Punjab 5-4 in tie-breaker to lift Santosh trophy 2015:
--> Services lifted the 69th edition of Santosh Trophy after edging out hosts Punjab 5-4 via tie-breaker in a nail-biting final held at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on 15 March 2015.
--> With this, Services won the Santosh trophy for the fourth time.
--> Earlier it had won the trophy in 2013, 2012 and 1961.
--> The tournament first began in 1941 and was named after the late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh, which is now in Bangladesh.

2) Srikanth won Swiss Grand Prix Gold championship:
--> Young Indian shuttler K. Srikanth clinched the Swiss Grand Prix Gold championship title after overcoming a strong challenge from Viktor Axelson of Denmark in a hard-fought men’s singles final on 15 March 2015.
--> The final was held at Basel in Switzerland.
--> With this, he became the first Indian men to win the 120000 US dollars Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold. 

3) Indian women beat Poland to win Hockey World League Round 2:
--> India scored in three of the four quarters to outplay Poland 3-1 in the final and clinch the FIH Hockey World League Round 2 at Major Dhyan Chan stadium in New Delhi on 15 March 2015.
--> Vandana Kataria (15th minute), Ritu Rani scored two goals (44th and 59th minute) for India which led to victory.

4) World Consumer Rights Day 2015 observed:
--> The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2015 was observed on 15 March 2015.
--> The theme for the WCRD 2015 is Helping consumers choose healthy diets.
--> The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is observed on 15 March every year to commemorate the historic address given by the then US President John F Kennedy to the US congress in 1962 in which he outlined the definition of consumer rights for the first time.

--> The cyclone Pam, a category five tropical storm, brought destructive 270 kilometre-per-hour winds and torrential rain along with it.

--> Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, in his first race drive for Ferrari since switching from Red Bull, finished on the podium in third place just ahead of Felipe Massa in a Williams.

--> Hamilton, 30, has won seven of the last eight GPs though this was his first in Australia since 2008. It was Hamilton's 34th win in his 149th GP.

1) Statue of Mahatma Gandhi unveiled in Parliament Square:
--> A historic bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled on 14 March 2015 at the Parliament Square in London, standing adjacent to iconic leaders like Britain's war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela.
--> British Prime Minister David Cameron and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley were joined by Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and the Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi at the ceremony to unveil the 9-foot statue of India's Father of the Nation.
--> Gandhi is the first Indian and the only person never to have been in a public office to be honoured with a statue at the Square.
--> The unveiling of the 9ft (2.7m) bronze statue marks 100 years since Gandhi returned to India from South Africa to begin his struggle for independence.
--> British sculptor, Philip Jackson, was commissioned to create the work with his previous pieces including statues of the Queen Mother and Bomber Command.
--> The statue was unveiled jointly by Cameron and Arun Jaitley.

2) Haryana Government to impose complete ban on Beef:
--> The Haryana government will impose a complete ban on the sale of beef in any form in the state, a minister said.
--> The BJP government in Haryana, headed by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has a majority in the assembly and the proposed bill is all set to be made into law.

--> Lia van Leer, pioneer of Israeli cinema passed away on 13 March 2015 in Jerusalem, Israel. She was 90.
--> She was the founder of Israel Film Archive, Jerusalem Cinematheque, Haifa Cinematheque and the Jerusalem Film Festival.

4) NASA’s Hubble telescope spots ocean on Jupiter’s moon Ganymede:
--> Astronomer's have found the most conclusive evidence yet that a large watery ocean lies beneath the surface of Jupiter's moon Ganymede.
--> Scientists believe that this finding could potentially support life.
--> Hubble Space Telescope’s finding was published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics.

5) Mary Kom to be brand ambassador of Northeast:
--> Olympic medal winning boxer MC Mary Kom is being appointed as the brand ambassador of the Northeast to showcase the potential of the region which offers Rs. 2.4 trillion business opportunities across various sectors.
--> An official announcement in this regard would me made soon, Minister of State in the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said.
--> Hailing from Manipur, one of the eight northeastern States, Mary Kom is a five—time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.
