IK Gujral, Former Prime Minister of India is no more
Former Prime Minister of India, Inder Kumar Gujral, the head of unsteady coalition government in 1990s, died at the age of 92 following brief illness on 30 November 2012. He is the author of the celebrated Gujral Doctrine (a set of five principles based on unilateral accommodation). He was the 12th Prime Minister of India from April 1997 to March 1998.

About I.K. Gujral
Gujral started off as the Vice President in NDMC in 1950s and later also became the Union Minister. Later, he became the Ambassador of India to USSR. I.K. Gujral was an intellectual who had put forward Gujral Doctrine comprising of five principles for maintenance of healthy relations with the neighbours.  In 1980s, he parted from the Congress and joined Janata Dal. In 1989, he became the Minister of External Affairs. He was also the Rajya Sabha member two times in 1964 as well as 1976. He was then re-elected to Lok Sabha in 1998.

Ricky Ponting announces retirement from Test cricket
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting who turns 38 next month, on 29 November 2012 called time on his 17-year illustrious Test career, announcing clash against South Africa in Perth starting 30.11.12 will be his last international test match.
By playing his last test match he will equal the Steve Waugh's mark of 168 Test matches -- the most in the history of Australian cricket. Pointing known by his pet name ‘Punter’ has 13,366 Test runs (before the last match) to his name, including 41 centuries with only Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar scoring more.

Arvind Kejriwal launches “Aam Aadmi Party”
Arvind Kejriwal launched his "Aam Aadmi Party “on 26 November 2012. He also formally unveiled the party’s constitution, which disallows the relative of a party member in the state executive or national executive councils from getting a place on those bodies.

Union Government issued New IT Guidelines to stop its Misuse
The Union government of India on 29 November 2012 issued new guidelines to stop misuse of a particular section of the Information Technology Act. Under the revised guidelines, the cases dealing with spreading messages of reported hatred by electronic medium will be decided by a senior police officer not below the rank of DCP in rural and urban areas. An IGP rank officer will have to give prior approval for registration of cases relating to section 66(a) of IT Act in metro-politan cities. Communication and IT Ministry sent an advisory to this effect to all the states.
The section 66[a] of IT Act provides for a jail term of upto three years making it an offence to send by means of computer resource or communication device any information which is grossly offensive, menacing and causes annoyance or hatred.

Sebastian Vettel becomes youngest triple champion of Formula One Race
25 year old Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull became Formula One’s youngest triple world champion at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The German, who needed only a fourth place to be sure of becoming the first driver to win his first three titles consecutively, finished 6th in the Brazillian Grand Prix behind the victorious Jenson Button. It was Briton Button's first win in Brazil, his third of the season and the 15th of his career.

Ms Chitra Ramakrishna to be new CEO & MD of NSE
Leading bourse National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced Ms Chitra Ramakrishna as its new MD and CEO with effect from 1 April, 2013.
At present only two of the top 20 bourses globally (South Africa’s Johannesburg Stock Exchange and China’s Shenzhen Stock Exchange) have women CEOs.

Usain Bolt, Allyson Felix : IAAF world athletes of the year
Jamaican runner Usain Bolt was declared the winner of the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award for 2012 for the 4th time.
US sprinter Allyson Felix bagged the women’s World Athlete of the Year award.
Inspiration Award went to US Hurdler Aries Merritt.
David Rudisha, runner from Kenya, won the Performance of the Year award while Keshorn Walcott, Javelin thrower of Trinidad and Anthonique Strachan sprinter of Bahamas won the Rising Star awards.

India successfully test fired supersonic interceptor missile
Giving a boost to Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) capability, India successfully launched an interceptor missile to destroy an incoming target missile in a accurate hit at an altitude of 15 km over the Bay of Bengal. The target missile played as an incoming enemy missile with a range of more than 2,000 km.
In the test, the interceptor missile, Advanced Air Defence (AAD), which was fired from the Wheeler Island, successfully destroyed the ‘hostile’ missile which was fired from Launch Complex-3 at Chandipur.

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva honoured with Indira Gandhi Peace Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development

President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development on former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
This was for his outstanding contribution to the developing world. During Lula’s presidency, relations between India and Brazil steadily progressed. It was during Lula’s presidency that the seeds were also sown for several international fora such as IBSA, BRICS, G-20 and BASIC.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (known popularly as Lula) was President of Brazil from January 1, 2003 – December 31, 2010. Presently Dilma Rousseff is the President of Brazil.

Pepsi replaces DLF as the title sponsor of IPL by winning 5 years sponsorship

Pepsi won the five-year title sponsorship of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It replaced earlier sponsor DLF by paying Rs 396.8 crore ($71.93 million) which is almost double the amount DLF paid.

Tenth ASEAN-India Summit Concluded at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The tenth ASEAN-India Summit that was held at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh, Cambodia concluded on 19 November 2012. The summit was chaired by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia- Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen and attended by the leaders of the ten Member states of ASEAN and the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
During the summit the discussions were held on identifying the future course of action on the ASEAN-India relations. Success was achieved in deciding the convening of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit scheduled to be held on 20 December to 21 December 2012 at New Delhi, India, the summit will be held to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations. 
During the 10th Anniversary of the ASEAN-India summit, 20th Anniversary of ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations was also observed at the same venue of Peach Place, Phnom Penh. The ASEAN-India Summit for the first time was observed in the year 2002 at Phnom Penh.

Twenty first ASEAN Summit concluded in Phnom Penh, Cambodia


The 21st ASEAN Summit Phnom Penh was held on 18 November 2012 at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia- Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen was the Chairperson for the 21st ASEAN Summit Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The head of states of the ASEAN members and the Secretary-General of ASEAN participated in the 21st ASEAN Summit and discussed about things like progress of the Implementation of ASEAN Charter and Roadmap for an ASEAN community. 

New Secretary General for ASEAN
Le Luong Minh- the candidate from the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam was appointed as the upcoming Secretary General for ASEAN for the next five year term by the ASEAN Head of States. The nomination was done on the basis of alphabetical rotation plan for next five year that would start from January 2013 and end in December 2018.

ASEAN
ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) was created on 8 August 1967 at Bangkok, Thailand after ASEAN Declaration (also called Bangkok Declaration) was signed between the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand. With time 5 more South Asian countries joined the group namely Brunei Darussalam joined on 7 January 1984, Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999. Today, ASEAN is a 10-member group by now.  The group was formed with a basic idea of promoting social progress, economic growth and cultural development between the member nations and talk on the differences in a peaceful manner.

Sunita Williams back on Earth after 4 months in space

Record-setting Indian- American Sunita Williams along with two fellow astronauts safely returned to Earth back from the International Space Station, touching down on the steppes of central Kazakhstan, after spending four months in orbit. Williams, 47, now has spent a total of 322 days in space during her two long-duration missions. Williams now also holds the record for spacewalking time for female astronauts.


Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Chosen for Indira Gandhi Peace Prize
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian president and Nobel laureate, will get this year's Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for being an "inspiration" to women and ensuring return of peace and democracy in Liberia. An international jury, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, selected Sirleaf for the award, set up by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

Ajmal Kasab hanged at Pune’s Yerawada central prison
The lone surviving terrorist of 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the Pakistani National was hanged to death at the Pune’s Yerawada central prison on 21 November 2012 at 7:30 am in a top-secret operation. Since 2004, it was the first time a capital sentence had been carried out in India. The hanging of Kasab came just a day after India voted against UN resolution for banning death sentence. Amongst other nations that voted against the resolution were Bangladesh, China, Korea, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kuwait, Libya, Pakistan and the USA.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton wins United States Grand Prix 2012

Lewis Hamilton, the McLaren driver went on to win the US Grand Prix on 18 November 2012 in the first Formula One race on American soil since 2007. The drivers' championship will be settled at Sao Paolo, Brazil, after Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel finished second and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso third.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, which was passed by Parliament in May this year, came into force on 14.11.2012. Under the Act, a child is defined as any person below the age of 18 and is gender-neutral.

Xi Jinping appointed China’s new leader
