2013
“French Open 2013 Men’s Single Winner- Rafael Nadal”
Rafael Nadal yet again underscored that he
is the prince of clay court at Roland Garros. He beat fellow Spaniard David
Ferrer in the French Open final held on 09 June 2013 (Sunday) with a margin of
6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to become the first man to
win eight titles at the same Grand Slam tournament. Nadal broke the men's
record for match wins at Roland Garros, where he improved to 59-1, with his
lone defeat against Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009. With his 12th
Grand Slam title, Nadal moved into a tie for third place with Roy Emerson
behind Roger Federer's 17 and Pete Sampras' 14. Despite his title the world
number four Nadal will drop to fifth in the ATP rankings. This contest was also

Serena Williams beats Maria Sharapova to win French Open 2013
title
“French Open 2013 Women’s Single Winner- Serena Williams”
Top-seeded Serena Williams beat No. 2 Maria
Sharapova 6-4, 6-4 to secure her second French Open title, 11 years to the day
after she beat her older sister Venus to win her first in 2002. It was the
31-year-old American's 16th Grand Slam title win. The win truly underscored her near total domination of the
women's game, having won three of the last four Grand Slam titles -- at
Wimbledon, the US and French Opens -- and reaching the quarterfinals at the
Australian Open. This was also the first French Open women's final involving
the two top seeds since 1995. At 31 years, 247 days she is the oldest women in
the Open Era to win the French Open title, taking over from Chris Evert who set
the previous mark in 1986. Sharapova, the defending French Open champion,
dropped to 2-14 vs. Williams, including 13 in a row and four defeats this
season, including this.
