Rafael Nadal lifts French Open
2013
“French Open 2013 Men’s Single Winner- Rafael Nadal”
Rafael Nadal yet again underscored that he
is the prince of clay court at Roland Garros. He beat fellow Spaniard David
Ferrer in the French Open final held on 09 June 2013 (Sunday) with a margin of
6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to become the first man to
win eight titles at the same Grand Slam tournament. Nadal broke the men's
record for match wins at Roland Garros, where he improved to 59-1, with his
lone defeat against Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009. With his 12th
Grand Slam title, Nadal moved into a tie for third place with Roy Emerson
behind Roger Federer's 17 and Pete Sampras' 14. Despite his title the world
number four Nadal will drop to fifth in the ATP rankings. This contest was also
the first all-Spanish final in Paris since Albert Costa beat Juan Carlos
Ferrero in 2002.
