clinched their maiden Santosh Trophy: Mizoram gave a fairy-tale finishing
to its most successful campaign in the senior National football championship by
towering over former champion Railways 3-0 in the final and annexed the maiden
Santosh Trophy in style. Making its first appearance in the final on Sunday,
Mizoram conquered a diffident start to overpower a well-prepared Railways and
gifted a big gathering of its passionate supporters at the Kanchenjungha

Women Day celebrated: International Women Day was celebrated across the
world on 8 March 2014 with the theme INSPIRING CHANGE. United Nations organized
many programmes to celebrate the 2014 Women day. International women’s day is
also called Working women’s day. Thousands of events occur to mark the
economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations,
governments, charities, educational institutions, women's groups, corporations
and the media celebrate the day. Each year International Women's Day (IWD) is

feared dead as Malaysia Airlines plane goes missing: A Malaysia Airlines flight
carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members went missing over the South China
Sea on Saturday, presumed crashed, as ships from countries closest to its
flight path scoured a large search area for any wreckage. Vietnamese state
media, quoting a senior naval official, had reported that the Boeing 777-200ER
flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had crashed off south Vietnam, but
Malaysia’s transport minister later denied any crash scene had been
identified.

released first list of LS candidates; Nilekani, Kaif get tickets: After much dilly-dallying, the
Congress finally came out with its first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha
elections on Saturday, with party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president
Rahul Gandhi leading the big names. Infosys co-founder-turned-Aadhaar-chairman
Nandan Nilekani will take on the BJP’s sitting MP Ananth Kumar in Bangalore
South, as was widely expected. A surprise pick is cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who
will try his luck from Phulpur, a constituency once represented by Jawaharlal
Nehru.

Jio’s innovation head Arvind Rao quits: Arvind Rao, Reliance Jio Infocomm's
head of innovation, has quit, a person with knowledge of the matter said. This
is the first high-profile resignation from the Mukesh Ambani-promoted company

phones.

to meet Railways in Santosh Trophy final: Mizoram scored two goals in extra
time to upstage a strong Tamil Nadu 3-1, and enter the final, for the first
time, of the 68th National football championship for the Santosh Trophy. In the
second semifinal, Ehtesham Ahmed saved two shots to help Railways down
Maharashtra 5-3 via the tie-breaker after the teams were locked 1-1 at the end
of 120 minutes of regulation and extra-time.

Lanka won Asia Cup title for fifth time: Pakistan failed to defend the Asia
Cup title as they were defeated by Sri Lanka in the final of the 12th edition Asia
Cup at the Shere Bangla National Stadium Mirpur on Saturday. Chasing 261, Sri
Lanka completed their well-deserved five-wicket victory with 22 balls left to
snatch the title from Pakistan who had won the previous tournament also held in
Bangladesh in 2012. Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup championship for the fifth time,
equaling the record held by India. Lahiru Thirimanne made his 3rd ODI ton and
became the top scorer of the tournament with 279 runs in 5 matches. He was thus
awarded Man of the Series.

Advani beats Kamal Chawla to lift 24th national snooker title: World
champion Pankaj Advani (PSPB) won his sixth national snooker title with a
commanding 6-3 win over Kamal Chawla of Railways in the 81st national snooker
championship, in Lucknow on Friday. This was Pankaj Advani's overall 24th
national title and it came against an opponent, who proved he was worthy of
being in the final but fell short against the eight-time world champion. Pankaj
Advani is the only Indian with a world title in snooker.
2) 2014
Winter Paralympics kicks off in Sochi, Russia: The Sochi 2014 Winter
Paralympic Games have opened with a heartwarming ceremony, paving the way for a
show of extreme skills, tough challenges, and unbreakable spirit. The flame was
again lit in the Russian city of Sochi on Friday, this time marking the start
of the Winter Paralympics. 550 athletes from 45 nations will participate in 72
disciplines across 5 sports. Brazil, Turkey and Uzbekistan are making their
debut in the Winter Paralympic Games.
3) RBI
to issue new banking licences soon: RBI Governor: The Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) expects to hand out new bank licences in a few weeks from now, its
Governor Raghuram Rajan has said. As many as 25 applicants are in the fray for
new banking licences, which are now being awarded after a span of a decade.
4) NDMC
launched Stri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana: North Delhi Municipal Corporation
(NDMC) launched a new health scheme Stri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna for women on 6
March 2014. The Scheme aims to bring services closer for those living in rural
areas and unauthorized colonies. Under the scheme, health camps and mass
awareness drives will be held in various areas of north Delhi. The medical
services will be provided through various nodal centres, hospitals and mobile
dispensaries marked for the programme.
5) Mathura
gets world's tallest Krishna temple: The foundation stone of a 212-meter
(700-foot) high Krishna temple, reputedly the world's tallest, will be laid on
March 16. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will dedicate the temple
coinciding with Holi festival. Called Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir, the temple
complex will be spread over 5.5 acres along the Chatikara road which connects
Vrindavan with the Delhi-Agra national highway.
6) Saudi
Arabia declares Muslim Brotherhood 'terrorist group': Saudi Arabia has
formally designated the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation. An
interior ministry statement also classified two jihadist groups fighting with
the Syrian rebels - the Nusra Front and the Islamic State in Iraq and the
Levant - as terrorist groups.
7) Japan:
Bitcoin not a currency but taxable- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s
Cabinet said on Friday that bitcoin, the world’s most well-known form of
virtual money, is not a currency, but would be taxable. Tokyo defined bitcoin
as a product that is not handled by banks and securities houses. It also added
that consumption tax would be levied on purchases of the virtual currency and
income tax would be imposed on profits from its sale.

Cycling Velodrome with air-conditioning facilities. It was decided in a meeting
of the Governing Body of SAI to set up a National Cycling Academy (SAINCA) in
