to get Dadasaheb Phalke award: Renowned lyricist, poet, author and
filmmaker Gulzar will be honoured with the 2013 Dadsaheb Phalke award, the
country' highest award in cinema given annually by the Government of India. The
79-year-old was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 and the Sahitya Akademi Award
in 2002. He has won a number of National Film Awards and 20 Filmfare Awards. Read more from here.
2) High
voter turnout in phase 4 in Goa, Assam, Tripura and Sikkim: In phase 4 the
Lok Sabha polls on Saturday, 75 per cent polling has been recorded in 2 seats
in Goa, 75 per cent in 3 seats in Assam, 81.8 per cent for 1 seat in Tripura.
In Sikkim, 76 per cent has been recorded for 1 one Lok Sabha and 32 Assembly
seats.

stars as Arsenal reach FA Cup final: Lukasz Fabianski saved two penalties
as Arsenal beat holders Wigan Athletic 4-2 in a shootout at Wembley on Saturday

CRPF men among 15 killed in twin Maoist attacks in Chhattisgarh: In a major post-poll attack, 15 people,
including six personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and nine
civilians, were killed on Saturday when Maoists blew up an ambulance and a bus
in two separate incidents in tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. aoist
guerrillas first triggered a powerful blast, targeting a bus when a polling
party was returning, at village Kutulnar between Kutru and Gudma in
Naxalite-affected Bijapur district. Seven members of the polling party were
killed in the blast and subsequent firing, while five others were injured.

Singh Sandhu shoots past Olympic champion to win World Cup gold: India's
Manavjit Singh Sandhu produced some excellent shooting to clinch the men's trap
gold medal ahead of two-time Olympic champion Michael Diamond at the ISSF
Shotgun World Cup in Tucson, USA. The 37-year-old Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna
awardee shot scores of 121 and 13 in the qualification and finals,
respectively, to finish on the podium with the gold medal around his neck.
6) HDFC
chairman Deepak Parekh to assist Sunil Gavaskar in IPL 2014 matters: Deepak
Parekh, an avid cricket follower and a management specialist, was appointed by
the Board of Control for Cricket in India as special advisor to Sunil Gavaskar,
Interim President, BCCI, for the 2014 season of the Indian Premier League.
Parekh will be a special invitee to the Governing Council meetings of the IPL.
He was recommended for the job by Gavaskar himself.

Daredevils unveiled new jersey for IPL 7:
The Delhi Daredevils on Saturday unveiled their brand new jersey for the
seventh edition of the Indian Premier league with a tie-up with the country's
largest online and mobile classifieds portal classified, Quikr. The new jersey
was unveiled in the presence of captain Kevin Pietersen, vice-captain Dinesh
Karthik and coach Gary Kirsten.

Queen conferred Knight Grand Cross on Ratan Tata: Ratan Tata, the former chairman of the Tata
Group which is one of the largest employers in Britain, has been honoured by
Queen Elizabeth with a GBE ( Knight Grand Cross), one of the UK's highest
civilian awards. "The Queen has been graciously pleased to approve the
following honorary British awards in 2014... GBE for Ratan Naval Tata, KBE, for
services to UK/India relations, inward investment to the UK and
philanthropy," an announcement by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
(FCO) said Thursday.
9) Rahul
Gandhi, flanked by entire family, files nomination from Amethi: Congress Vice
President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday filed his nomination from Amethi in Uttar
Pradesh in the presence of mother Sonia, sister Priyanka and her husband Robert
Vadra. The Congress No. 2 is seeking re-election for a third consecutive term

Veteran film lyricist and director Gulzar chosen for Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2013

Know about Dadasaheb Phalke
Award?
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's
highest award in cinema given annually by the Government of India for lifetime
contribution to Indian cinema.
The Award is given to a prominent
personality from the Indian film industry, noted and respected for significant
contributions to Indian cinema. A committee consisting eminent personalities
from the Indian film industry is appointed to evaluate the award. Introduced in
1969, the birth centenary year of Dadasaheb Phalke, considered as the father of
Indian cinema, award is given to recognise the contribution of film
personalities towards the development of Indian Cinema and for distinguished
contribution to the medium, its growth and promotion.
The award for a particular year is given
during the end of the following year along with the National Film Awards. The
award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a cash prize of INR 1
million and a shawl.

R.M. Lodha appointed next Chief Justice of India: Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha has been appointed
as the next Chief Justice of India and he will assume charge on April 27. On
Friday, the law ministry issued a press note saying the President has appointed
Justice Lodha as the next CJI. Justice Lodha (64) is the most senior judge of
the Supreme Court after CJI P Sathasivam. He will have a brief tenure of five
months as CJI as he is scheduled to retire on September 27. Read more from here.

banned Amit Shah, Azam Khan rallies: Taking serious exception to the
failure of the U.P. government to file an FIR against Urban Development
Minister Azam Khan for his communal utterances and to check inflammatory
speeches by BJP leader Amit Shah, the Election Commission on Friday directed
the Chief Secretary to initiate criminal proceedings against the two and ban
public meetings where they are expected to be present.

‘Heartbleed’ virus arrived in Indian cyberspace: Indian cyber security
sleuths have alerted Internet users against a “highly severe” virus named
‘Heartbleed’, which has set alarm bells ringing across the globe for fear of
exposing millions of passwords, credit card numbers and other sensitive
information to hackers. The virus prowling in the domestic arena, authorities
said, attacks the openSSL of an online system which is the most essential
protocol which encrypts information and data transfer over the Internet.

presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Sangeet Natak Akademi

Mahesh Elkunchwar. The Fellows received a cash purse of Rs. 3 lakh. The awards

India successfully conducted maiden night test of Agni missile: India last
night successfully conducted maiden night test of its indigenously developed
nuclear-capable Agni-I ballistic missile with strike range of 700 km from a
test range off Odisha coast as part of a user trial by the Army. The
surface-to-surface, single-stage missile, powered by solid propellants, was
test-fired from a mobile launcher at 2310 hours from launch pad-4 of the
Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Wheeler Island, about 100 km from here, Defence
sources said.
7) Infosys starts new CEO search: IT major
Infosys is poised to choose a CEO from outside its six founders as incumbent
CEO S.D Shibulal is set to exit well before the end of his term. Days before
announcing its annual financial results, the company declared to the stock
exchange early on Thursday that it will start its hunt for a new CEO, and
interestingly, this time the search will include external candidates.

Judge of the Rajasthan High Court in January 1994. He was transferred to the
Bombay High Court where he assumed office in February 1994. Justice Lodha was
transferred back to the Rajasthan High Court in February 2007. He had been the

Daily Current Affairs: 10 April 2014
1) High voter turnout in phase 3 of Lok Sabha elections:
The crucial third phase of the general elections on Thursday largely saw a
healthy increase in voter turnout, with Jammu and Kashmir getting a special
mention from the Election Commission for an "outstanding" 66 per cent
voting in Jammu, the one constituency where polling was held. The first major
round of polling was held in 91 constituencies across the 14 States what is
technically the third phase of the 16th Lok Sabha elections.
While polling was
held in all of Kerala, Haryana and Delhi, this phase includes several Naxal-hit
areas and the recently riot-torn Muzaffarnagar and neighbouring districts. The
91 constituencies where polling was held include 10 each in Maharashtra, U.P.
and Odisha besides nine in Madhya Pradesh, six in Bihar, four in Jharkhand. The
fate of some outgoing ministers including Kapil Sibal, Kamal Nath and Shashi
Tharoor besides Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will be decided in this phase.
With this phase, polling will be wrapped up in 104 of the 543 Lok Sabha
constituencies.
2) Govt declared holiday on B R Ambedkar's birth
anniversary: The Centre has declared a holiday on Monday on account
of Dr B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary, giving about 50 lakh central government
employees an extended weekend. "It has been decided to declare Monday, the
14th April 2014, as a closed holiday on account of the birthday of Dr B R
Ambedkar, for all central government offices including industrial
establishments throughout India," said an office memorandum issued by
Ministry of Personnel.
3) Mulayam’s ‘rape as mistake’ comment sparks outrage:
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh, on Thursday, described rapes as “mistakes”
committed by boys, sparking outrage among, and strong condemnation by,
political parties, women’s groups and the National Commission for Women.
4) Viktor Orban re-elected as Prime Minister of Hungary:
Viktor Orban was re-elected as Prime Minister of Hungary for the second
consecutive four-year term. The results of general elections were announced on
8 April 2014. The General parliamentary elections were held on 6 April 2014.
5) Ratan Tata appointed board member of China-backed Boao
Forum: Ratan Tata, the doyen of Indian industry, was on Thursday
inducted as a member of the Board of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), a rare
distinction for an Indian in the Chinese government-backed influential body.
6) PV Sindhu entered Swiss Open quarter finals:
World No.9 shuttler P.V. Sindhu staged an amazing come-from-behind victory to
progress to the women’s singles quarterfinals at the $125,000 Swiss Open Grand
Prix Gold at St. Jakobshal in Basel on Thursday. The seventh seed lost a
cliff-hanger first game to Canada’s Li Michelle but displayed all her grit and
experience to win the next two to enter the last eight. The World Championship
bronze medallist ousted her unseeded opponent 19-21, 21-16, 21-11 in 54 minutes
to take 2-0 lead in career meets.
Pattern and Syllabus of SBI PO Exam 2014
The selection procedure for SBI PO 2014
will be in three stages:
>> Objective and descriptive tests
>> Group discussion and interview
>> Final selection
Phase-I consists objective tests for 200
marks and a descriptive test for 50 marks.
The objective test will be online.
Immediately after the online objective
test, the descriptive Test will follow.
The descriptive test will be in the
paper/pen mode.
* The Objective Test of 2-hour duration
will consist of four Sections with 50 objective test marks each (Total 200
marks).
The breakdown is as follows:
a) Test of English Language (Grammar,
Vocabulary, Comprehension etc.) - 50
b) Test of General Awareness, Marketing
& Computers - 50
c) Test of Data Analysis &
Interpretation - 50
d) Test of Reasoning (High Level) - 50
The candidates are required to qualify in
each of the tests by securing passing marks, which will be decided by the Bank.
(ii) The Descriptive Test of 1 hour
duration (50 marks) will be of of English Language (comprehension, short
precis, letter writing & essay).
The candidates are required to qualify in
the descriptive tests by securing passing marks, which will again be decided by
the Bank. Descriptive Test papers of only those candidates, who have scored
qualifying marks in the objective tests, will be evaluated. The candidates will
be declared as having passed only when they get pass marks (to be decided by
SBI) in each section of objective test. The descriptive test will be held for
50 marks with one hour to test for English language skills. In this test candidates
need to write comprehension, short precis, letter writing and essay for a given
topic.
Phase-II: The group discussion will be held for 20
marks after the interview which will be for 30 marks. The candidates who get
pass marks in the written test will be called for group discussion and
interview.
Phase-III:
The final selection will be based on the marks scored in the written test,
group discussion and interview. The marks will be converted to 100 and the selection
will be made from the top-ranked candidates in each category.

Dhawan named one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year: India's
swashbuckling opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been named as one of the Five
Cricketers of the Year, an honour dating back to 1889, by Wisden for his
performance in 2013. The 28-year-old Dhawan was the highest run-scorer during
India's triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy, amassing 363 runs in five ODIs at
an average of 90.75. He was awarded Man of the Series for his performance that
included centuries against South Africa and West Indies. His performance during
the tournament in England was acknowledged by Wisden, which also named
Australian duo Chris Rogers and Ryan Harris, England batsman Joe Root and
England women's captain Charlotte Edwards in the list. Dale Steyn was Wisden's
Leading Cricketer in the World for 2013. He was the second South African to be
selected for the award after Jacques Kallis in 2007.

Vikrant, India's first aircraft carrier, sold to ship-breaker for Rs 60 crore:
The decommissioned aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, INS Vikrant, which
played an important role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, has been sold for Rs 60
crore. "The auction process of INS Vikrant was completed last week and a
company named IB Commercial Pvt Ltd won the bid," said a defence source.
Earlier, the Maharashtra government had expressed its inability to maintain
Vikrant, the Indian Navy's first aircraft carrier which was commissioned in
1961. It was decommissioned in January 1997.

Tendulkar adorns cover of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack: Batting legend
Sachin Tendulkar, who quit international cricket last year after an illustrious
24-year long career, adorned the covers of the 151st edition of the Wisden
Cricketers' Almanack. The 40-year-old cricketer is the first Indian to feature
on the cover of the Almanack. He was earlier chosen to feature on the cover of
the second edition of the Wisden India Almanack. The yellow page shows
Tendulkar walking out of the Wankhede stadium after playing his last innings
against the West Indies in November last year. The photograph captured
Tendulkar acknowledging the crowd with his bat raised.

Kapoor is now the brand ambassador for Lenovo smartphones: Chinese tech
giant Lenovo has roped in Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor as the brand ambassador
for its range of smartphones in India. As part of the association, Ranbir will
endorse Lenovo’s range of smartphones and will feature in various television
and online commercials for the brand in India. The actor already endorses
Lenovo’s PCs and tablets.

Bank projects 5.7% growth for India in 2014-15: The World Bank on 9 April 2014 projected an
economic growth rate of 5.7 per cent in 2014-15 for India on the back of a more
competitive exchange rate and many large investments going forward.

Chandrasekaran named new Nasscom chairman: Software services industry lobby
group Nasscom has named US-based Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp.’s R.
Chandrasekaran as its new chairman for the 2014-15 financial year.
Chandrasekaran, Cognizant India executive vice-chairman and a Cognizant veteran
of two decades, will take over from Mindtree’s chief executive and co-founder
Krishnakumar Natarajan. Nasscom also named B.V.R. Mohan Reddy as its new
vice-chairman, a role that was previously held by Chandrasekaran.

Arabia mulls end to sports ban in girls' state schools: Saudi Arabia is
considering ending its controversial ban on sports in girls' state schools,
after its consultative council recommended the ban be lifted over vociferous
opposition from traditionalists. Following a heated debate on Tuesday, the
Shura Council recommended that the longstanding ban, already relaxed in private
schools in May last year, be ended altogether, state media reported.

Startup StoreDot Charges Smartphone Battery in Just 30 Seconds: A
smartphone battery has been developed that can charge up almost as quickly as you
can say 'nanotechnology'. An Israeli start-up has unveiled a battery that can
be charged in less than 30 seconds. StoreDot demonstrated their pioneering
progress at Microsoft's Think Next symposium in Tel Aviv by fully charging a
Samsung S4 smartphone from a dead battery in just 26 seconds. Although still a
very long way off from being used commercially, the technology could hold
promise for smartphone battery life improvement in the future.
9) Tendulkar
named Mumbai Indians icon: Mumbai Indians, winner of the Champions League
T20 and IPL-VI, has named Sachin Tendulkar as its icon. “I have been part of
the Mumbai Indians team since its inception and am delighted to continue my
association. “This season it will be a different experience for me as I look forward
to closely interact with the experienced support staff and share my knowledge
with the exciting youngsters in the team,” said Tendulkar.
