Rousseff re-elected as Brazilian
President: Left-leaning President Dilma Rousseff was re-elected Sunday in
the tightest race Brazil has seen since its return to democracy three decades
ago, giving the juggernaut Workers’ Party its fourth-straight presidential
victory and the chance to extend its social transformation of the globe’s
fifth-largest country. Ms. Rousseff took 51.6 percent of the votes and
centre-right challenger Aecio Neves had 48.4 percent, with almost all ballots
counted.

Africa football captain Senzo Meyiwa shot dead: South Africa soccer captain
Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead by intruders when trying to protect his girlfriend
during a robbery at her home near Johannesburg, officials said on Monday. The
27-year-old Orlando Pirates goalkeeper died on Sunday after suffering a single
shot through the chest at the home of girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, a local actress
and singer, in the township of Vosloorus. "Two guys entered the house and
demanded cellphones, money and other valuables," provincial Community
Safety official Sizakele Nkosi-Malubane told reporters at the scene.

money: govt. names industrialists: The Centre on Monday disclosed in the
Supreme Court that Pradip Burman of Dabur, Rajkot-based bullion trader Pankaj
Chimanlal Lodhiya and Goa-based mining baron Radha Satish Timblo of Timblo
Private Ltd. were among those who had stashed black money abroad. Other
Directors of Timblo — Chetan S. Timblo, Rohan S. Timblo and Mrs. Mallika R.
Timblo were also named in the affidavit, ahead of the hearing on Tuesday. While
disclosing these names, the Centre sought modification of the May 1 apex court
order to disclose all names of foreign account holders and pleaded that only
those names against whom investigations had been completed and prosecution
launched, should be disclosed.

aggressive game plan that unsettled the Romanian player. Williams won 11 of the
last 12 games in the match to join Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf as the
only players to have won five titles in the season-ending championships.

drops to sixth place in ICC Test rankings: India on Sunday dropped to sixth
place in the ICC Test rankings after Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the ongoing
series against Australia. “Pakistan’s victory in the Dubai Test has not only
ensured that it will move ahead of India in fifth position irrespective of how
the Abu Dhabi Test ends, it has dashed Australia hopes of regaining the number
one Test ranking,” the ICC said in a statement.

government in Maharashtra to be sworn-in on October 31: The swearing-in
ceremony of the new BJP government has been postponed by a day due to
non-availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 30. The new Cabinet
of the BJP will take its oath on October 31. The swearing-in ceremony will take
place at Wankhede stadium on Friday evening in the presence of the Prime
Minister. This is the first oath taking ceremony to be held at the stadium in
the recent history of Maharashtra.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung begins two-day India visit: Highlighting the growing
closeness in their ties and the strategic nature of their relationship, Vietnam
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung begins his two-day state visit to India on Monday,
the third high-level exchange between the two countries in two months. Prime
Minister Dung, who begins his India visit by touching down at Bodh Gaya in
Bihar, is accompanied by a 50-member business delegation with economic
engagement being top on the agenda of bilateral talks.

Lal Khattar sworn in as CM of BJP's first govt in Haryana: Manohar Lal
Khattar, a low-profile organization man with active RSS background, was today
sworn in as chief minister of Haryana, where BJP has formed government for the
first time on its own. Khattar a first time MLA, represents Karnal constituency
in the Haryana assembly. He is Haryana's first non-jat chief minister in 18
years. Khattar is the 10th chief minister of the state, which was created
November 1, 1966. 60-year-old Khattar, a first-time MLA from Karnal and a
non-jat leader known to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was
administered the oath along with nine ministers by governor Kaptan Singh
Solanki at a function attended by a galaxy of BJP leaders including the PM,
party chief Amit Shah, Union ministers, chief ministers of BJP ruled states and
veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi.

Mirza and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black ended the season and their

Nilofar to bring heavy rainfall: After Hudhud that hit India's eastern
coast on October 12, it's now turn of another cyclonic storm 'Nilofar' to keep
the Met department on toes for the next four days. Its impact is likely to be
felt mid-week in Kutch area of north Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coast. The
new cyclonic storm, formed in Arabian Sea, will, however, not be as intense as
Hudhud. Nilofar is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rains in coastal
districts of Saurashtra and Kutch area of north Gujarat on Thursday.

1) Election
Commission announced poll dates for J&K, Jharkhand: Election Commission
on Saturday announced a five-phase assembly poll in Jammu & Kashmir and
Jharkhand from November 25 to December 20. Three assembly seats in Delhi —
Mehrauli, Tughlaqabad and Krishna Nagar — will also have bypolls on November
25, along with the first phase of J&K and Jharkhand election, in an outcome
which may have a bearing on whether a government will be formed in the Capital
from the existing assembly or it will have to go for fresh polls. The first
phase of polling in Jharkhand and J&K on November 25 will be followed by
the second phase on December 2, third on December 9, fourth on December 14 and
fifth and final phase on December 20. Counting for the two states as well as Delhi
bypolls will be held on December 23, Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath
announced at a press conference.

of India released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Anagarika Dharmapala: A
commemorative postage stamp on Sri Lankan Buddhist monk Anagarika Dharmapala,
who is credited to have revived Buddhism in India in the 19th century, was
released in New Delhi on 25 October 2014 by President Pranab Mukherjee. Infact
it is a joint stamp issue of India and Sri Lanka.Its the first joint stamp
issue of India with any SAARC country.Sri Lanka issued stamp on 150th Birth
Anniversary of Anagarika Dharmapala last week. Law and Telecom Minister Ravi
Shankar Prasad, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India Sudharshan
Seneviratne, Member of Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi and Foreign Secretary Sujatha
Singh were among those present on the occasion.

gives nod to defence projects worth Rs 80,000 cr: Defence projects worth a
whopping Rs 80,000 crore were cleared by the government which decided that six
submarines will be made indigenously and over 8,000 Israeli anti-tank guided
missiles and 12 upgraded Dornier surveillance aircraft will be purchased. The
decisions were taken following a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council,
chaired by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, that lasted for over two hours with
Defence Secretary, the Chiefs of all three services, DRDO Chief and other
senior officials attending it. The bulk of the decisions went in favour of the
Navy that was in dire need of up-gradation and capability enhancement.

to have June 21 commemorated each year as the 'International Day of Yoga' at
the United Nations, aiming to bring to fruition the idea floated by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi in his maiden address to the UN General Assembly last
month.

chief Sundar Pichai to head Google’s products business: India-born chief of
Google’s Android unit, Sundar Pichai, will now lead the US-based search engine
giant’s global products business as part of management reorganisation.
According to industry sources, Google CEO Larry Page is transferring leadership
of core Google products to Pichai, who will now oversee products like search,
maps, Google+, commerce, advertising and infrastructure.

buys Ranchi franchise of Hockey India League: After motorsports and football,
Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has now lent his support to
Indian hockey by becoming the owner of the Ranchi franchise of the Hockey India
League (HIL). Dhoni bought the team along with Sahara India Pariwar, who
already is the owner of the Uttar Pradesh Wizards side in the HIL. The new
Ranchi franchise will be known as 'Ranchi Rays' from third edition of HHIL to
be held in January-February next year.

suspended Atletico de Kolkata coach and two players: All India Football Federation
suspended head coach of Atletico de Kolkata Antonio Lopez Habas for four
matches while two players Robert Pires and Fikru Lemessa have been banned for
two matches for breaching disciplinary code during the ongoing Indian Super
League. Both the players and the coach were involved in ugly altercations
during an ill-tempered match between Atletico de Kolkata and FC Goa at Margao
on October 23.
