Australian Open 2015- Complete Winners list PDF


*The 2015 Australian Open took place at Melbourne Park, Australia between 19 January to 1 February 2015. It was the 103rd edition of the Australian Open, and the first Grand Slam tournament of the year 2015. Stan Wawrinka was the defending champion in men's singles but lost to four-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. Reigning women's champion Li Na did not defend her title, as she retired from professional tennis in September, 2014.

* This year Novak Djokovic won an Open Era record fifth men's singles crown by defeating Andy Murray in the finals. Serena Williams won an Open Era record six women's singles championships by defeating Maria Sharapova in the finals.

Marathi novelist Bhalchandra Nemade chosen for Jnanpith Award 2014

* Eminent Marathi litterateur Bhalachandra Nemade has been chosen for the 50th Jnanpith Award for 2014.

* The decision to confer the 50th Jnanpith award on 76-year-old Nemade was taken in a meeting of the 10-member selection board chaired by noted scholar, writer, and critic Prof Namwar Singh in New Delhi.

* Born in 1938, Namade occupies a unique place in Marathi literature.

* His hugely celebrated works — from "Kosala", 1963 to his recently-published magnum opus "Hindu" — have earned him a reputation as a self-aware, globally conscious and alert writer, said a statement issued by Bharatiya Jnanpith on 6 February 2015.

* He was honoured with Sahitya Akademi award in 1991 for his volume of criticism, Teeka Swayamvara, and Padma Shri in 2011.

* Nemade is the fourth Marathi writer to win the literary honour after VS Khandekar in 1974, VV Shirwadkar alias Kusumagraj in 1988, and Govind Karandikar alias Vinda Karandikar in 2003.

* He has novels like Hool, Bidar (1967), Zarila (1977) and Zhool (1979) and poetry volumes,Dekhni and Melody to his credit among other critical essays.

1) Pragyan Ojha's action cleared by BCCI:
--> BCCI has cleared suspended left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha's action and he is now eligible to play in first-class games with immediate effect.
--> The 28-year-old spinner was barred by the BCCI in December last year following investigations into the elbow extension during bowling which was found to be more than the permissible limits by the International Cricket Council (ICC). 

2) Alibaba entered India's e-commerce space with 25% stake in Paytm:
--> Alibaba, the world's biggest and most valuable ecommerce firm, has finally moved to pitch its flag in India.
--> An Alibaba affiliate, Ant Financial Services Group, said on 5 February 2015 it had signed a deal to buy a 25% stake in Indian mobile payments and ecommerce platform Paytm owner One97 Communications.
--> Paytm is the largest mobile wallet service in India with around 23 million users.
--> It started its services in 2010 and is valued around $2 billion recently.

--> This is the largest share sale by a private sector entity and the second largest fund-raising by selling shares in the secondary market after the bumper Rs. 22,500-crore Coal India issue last week by the government.
