1) Indian scientist Kamal Bawa elected fellow of Royal
Society:
--> Noted Indian conservation biologist
Kamal Bawa will be formally admitted to the prestigious Royal Society as a
fellow on July 10 for his "pioneering contributions to understanding the
population biology of tropical forest trees".
--> India-born Bawa, an internationally
recognised evolutionary ecologist and a distinguished professor of biology at
the University of Massachusetts, Boston, was elected a fellow of the
London-based society in April, according to a university media release.
--> Bawa joins former and current
fellows such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking,
and about 80 Nobel laureates.
2) Controversial Meiji sites in Japan get world heritage
status:
--> Japan’s Meiji-era (1868-1912)
industrial revolution sites have received World Cultural Heritage status from
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
--> Decision in this regard was taken
during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee chaired by Maria Bohmer
in Bonn, Germany.
--> With this inclusion, the total
Cultural sites with UNESCO World Heritage Status in Japan have increased to 15
along with 4 natural sites.
--> The site was controversial as Korean
forced labourers were used before and during the Second World War for its
construction.
3) Aseel Shaheen is first Arab woman to officiate at
Wimbledon:
--> There are 350 personnel officiating
this year at Wimbledon, but one of them catches attention instantaneously.
--> She's Aseel Shaheen – the first Arab
woman to be appointed as an official for the prestigious Grand Slam.
--> Every year, the All England Club in
London invites 60 overseas officials, and the 41-year-old Shaheen is one of
them but the only one to create history.
4) Brazil unveiled Rio 2016 Olympic flame:
--> Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff
has vowed Rio 2016 will be a "historic" event after unveiling the
Olympic torch.
--> The torch relay will begin at the
Games' birthplace in Olympia, Greece, before embarking on its tour of Brazil in
May 2016.
5) Fiji defeated Micronesia 38-0 in Pacific Games football
match:
--> Fiji broke the record for the
biggest win in international football with a 38-0 victory on 5 July 2015 over
the Federated States of Micronesia.
--> Organizers said the result broke the
2001 record when Australia beat American Samoa 31-0 in an Oceania confederation
qualifier for the 2002 World Cup.
6) Australia defeated Belgium 1-0 to win Hockey World League
Semi-Final:
--> World Champions Australia defeated
Belgium by 1-0 in the finals of the Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Final
tournament.
--> Thus Australia claimed gold medal
while hosts Belgium got the silver medal in the tournament.
--> HWL Semi-final was hosted at the KHC
Dragons Stadium in Antwerp (Belgium).
--> The tournament’s final will be
played in Mohali (India) during December 2015.
--> India finished fourth in the
tournament.

1) Chile won Copa America football title 2015:
--> Chile won South America’s most
prestigious football trophy, the Copa America title 2015 for the first time.
--> It is Chile’s first ever
international trophy in football.
--> The host team defeated the
much-fancied Argentina by 4-1 on penalties to win the prestigious tournament.
--> The final was played at Santiago’s
Estadio Nacional in the presence of nearly 50,000 Chileans.
--> Chile had reached the finals of Copa
America four times before – 1955, 1956, 1979 and 1987. However, they lost all
the four finals.
2) Union Government released first ever Socio-Economic and
Caste Census in 80 years:
--> Union Government released the first
ever Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) after 80 years on the lines of the
1931 census.
--> It was released by Union Finance
Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi.
--> The SECC findings reflect the state
of poverty and deprivation as well as crucial social trends in rural India such
as ownership of assets, marital status, gender dynamics educational and
employment in rural India.
3) Corporation Bank launched first MUDRA card:
--> The MUDRA (Micro Units Development
and Refinance Agency) card under the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) scheme
was launched by the Corporation Bank on 4 July 2015.

Corporation Bank thus became the first bank in the country to launch
MUDRA Card.
4) USA won 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup:
--> Carli Lloyd became the first woman
to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final as she inspired the United States to
a 5-2 win over defending champions Japan in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015.
--> The United States, winners in 1991
and 1999, became the first nation to win the crown three times and avenged
their loss to Japan on penalties in the 2011 final.
5) Lewis Hamilton won 2015 Birtish Grand Prix of F1:
--> Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of
Britain won 2015 Birtish Grand Prix of Formula One (F1).
--> This was his fourth victory of the
season and his second of Birtish Grand Prix.
--> With this victory Hamilton became
second British F1 driver to win Birtish Grand Prix two times after David
Coulthard.
6) FDI in manufacturing of tobacco products prohibited: RBI
--> Reserve Bank on 3 July 2015 said the
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in manufacturing of tobacoo products is
prohibited, though activities such as retail and wholesale trading fall under
the sectoral restrictions.
--> Foreign direct investment (FDI) is
prohibited in the manufacturing of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes,
of tobacco or of tobacco substitutes, RBI said in a notification.
7) India defeated Sri Lanka to win South Asian Basketball
Championship:
--> Defending champions India have
retained the South Asian Basketball Championship (SABA) title.
--> It was the 4th edition of the
Championships.
--> In the final match of played at
Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka they defeated Sri Lanka by 93-44
score.
--> With this win India qualified for

1) Airbus and Mahindra to make military choppers in India:
--> European aerospace giant Airbus and
India's Mahindra group have inked a deal to jointly build helicopters as the
Indian government moves to upgrade the country's ageing military hardware.
--> The joint venture between Airbus
Helicopters and Mahindra Defence aims to become the "first private Indian
helicopter manufacturer under the 'Make in India' initiative.
--> To be set up in the coming months,
the venture would produce helicopters to meet the country's military
requirements.
2) President of India receives first copy of book 'Uniki':
--> The President of India, Shri Pranab
Mukherjee received the first copy of the book 'Uniki' in Hyderabad on 3 July
2015.
--> The book has been written by Shri Ch
Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra.
--> The President received the book from
Shri K Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana who formally released it.
--> President congratulated Shri Rao for
bringing out this useful compilation of writings and reflections on his life
and experiences.
--> He stated that the title, 'Uniki',
which means Existence, evokes a philosophical view of the issues and events
that have been written about in this book.
3) Keltron founding chairman K P P Nambiar passed away:
--> K P P Nambiar, founding Chairman of
Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Keltron) died on 1
July 2015 due to age-related illnesses.
--> Nambiar set up India's first
Electronic Technology Park (Techno Park) in Trivandrum to provide
infrastractural support required to set up high technology electronic units in
the State.
--> He served as Secretary to the
Department of Electronics during late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure.
--> He was awarded Padma Bhushan by
Government of India for his contributions to the field of technology in 2006.
4) BSNL launched mobile wallet service ‘Speed Pay’:
--> BSNL on 3 July 2015 launched a
pre-paid card linked mobile wallet service which would allow its customers to
transfer money, pay for services as well as withdraw cash of up to Rs. 1 lakh.
--> The wallet service, Speed Pay,
allows a customer to load money even if he does not have a bank account. The
money loaded in the mobile wallet can be transferred to a bank account and even
withdrawn at bank branches or BSNL outlets.
--> Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad
inaugurated the service.
5) Nationwide Mobile Number Portability becomes operational:
--> Nationwide mobile number portability
(MNP) has become operational from 3 July 2015.
--> It became operational after major
private mobile operators like Vodafone, RCom, Airtel, Uninor and Idea Cellular
along with state-run BSNL and MTNL issued statements to launch MNP.
--> The operationalisation of nationwide
MNP will allow customers to keep their existing mobile phone numbers while
shifting between States and circles by changing operators.
6) Madhya Pradesh sets world record for hand washing:
--> Guinness Book of World Records has
recognized the record created on world hand washing day in Madhya Pradesh on
October 15, 2014.
--> Information about the record set by
Madhya Pradesh is displayed on official website of Guinness Book.
--> According to Guinness Book, 12,76
,425 students created a new world record through simultaneous hand washing at
programmes held at 13,196 places across the 51 districts of the state.
7) C Ramakrishnan appointed Tata Motors' Group CFO:
--> C Ramakrishnan was appointed on 1
July 2015 as Tata Motors' Group Chief Financial Officer.
--> Tata Motors is the leader in
commercial vehicles in each segment, and among the top in passenger vehicles in
