Former Prime Minister of India, Inder Kumar
Gujral, the head of unsteady coalition government in 1990s, died at the age of
92 following brief illness on 30 November 2012. He is the author of the
celebrated Gujral Doctrine (a set of five principles based on unilateral accommodation).
He was the 12th Prime Minister of India from April 1997 to March 1998.
About I.K. Gujral
Gujral started off as the Vice President in NDMC
in 1950s and later also became the Union Minister. Later, he became the
Ambassador of India to USSR. I.K. Gujral was an intellectual who had put
forward Gujral Doctrine comprising of five principles for maintenance of
healthy relations with the neighbours. In 1980s, he parted from the Congress and
joined Janata Dal. In 1989, he became the Minister of External Affairs. He was
also the Rajya Sabha member two times in 1964 as well as 1976. He was then
re-elected to Lok Sabha in 1998.
Ricky Ponting announces
retirement from Test cricket
Former Australian
captain Ricky Ponting who turns 38 next month, on 29 November 2012 called time
on his 17-year illustrious Test career, announcing clash against South Africa
in Perth starting 30.11.12 will be his last international test match.
By playing his last
test match he will equal the Steve Waugh's mark of 168 Test matches -- the most
in the history of Australian cricket. Pointing known by his pet name ‘Punter’ has
13,366 Test runs (before the last match) to his name, including 41 centuries
with only Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar scoring more.
Arvind Kejriwal launched his "Aam Aadmi Party
“on 26 November 2012. He also formally unveiled the party’s constitution, which
disallows the relative of a party member in the state executive or national
executive councils from getting a place on those bodies.
Union Government issued New
IT Guidelines to stop its Misuse
The Union government of India on 29 November
2012 issued new guidelines to stop misuse of a particular section of the
Information Technology Act. Under the revised guidelines, the cases dealing
with spreading messages of reported hatred by electronic medium will be decided
by a senior police officer not below the rank of DCP in rural and urban areas.
An IGP rank officer will have to give prior approval for registration of cases
relating to section 66(a) of IT Act in metro-politan cities. Communication and
IT Ministry sent an advisory to this effect to all the states.
The section 66[a] of IT Act provides for a jail
term of upto three years making it an offence to send by means of computer
resource or communication device any information which is grossly offensive,
menacing and causes annoyance or hatred.
Sebastian Vettel becomes youngest triple champion of Formula One
Race
25 year old Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull became
Formula One’s youngest triple world champion at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The
German, who needed only a fourth place to be sure of becoming the first driver
to win his first three titles consecutively, finished 6th in the Brazillian
Grand Prix behind the victorious Jenson Button. It was Briton Button's first
win in Brazil, his third of the season and the 15th of his career.
Ms Chitra Ramakrishna to be
new CEO & MD of NSE
Leading bourse National Stock Exchange (NSE)
announced Ms Chitra Ramakrishna as its new MD and CEO with effect from 1 April,
2013.
At present only two of the top 20 bourses
globally (South Africa’s Johannesburg Stock Exchange and China’s Shenzhen Stock
Exchange) have women CEOs.

India successfully test fired
supersonic interceptor missile
Giving a boost to Ballistic Missile Defence
(BMD) capability, India successfully launched an interceptor missile to destroy
an incoming target missile in a accurate hit at an altitude of 15 km over the
Bay of Bengal. The target missile played as an incoming enemy missile with a
range of more than 2,000 km.
In the test, the interceptor missile, Advanced
Air Defence (AAD), which was fired from the Wheeler Island, successfully
destroyed the ‘hostile’ missile which was fired from Launch Complex-3 at
Chandipur.
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva honoured
with Indira Gandhi Peace Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development
President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Indira
Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development on former Brazilian
president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
This was for his outstanding contribution to the
developing world. During Lula’s presidency, relations between India and Brazil
steadily progressed. It was during Lula’s presidency that the seeds were also
sown for several international fora such as IBSA, BRICS, G-20 and BASIC.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (known popularly as
Lula) was President of Brazil from January 1, 2003 – December 31, 2010.
Presently Dilma Rousseff is the President of Brazil.
Pepsi won the five-year title sponsorship of the

Taupo Volcanic Zone?
The Taupo Volcanic Zone is a highly active
volcanic V shaped area in the North Island of New Zealand that is spreading
east -west at the rate of about 8mm per year.
Named after Lake Taupo, the flooded caldera of
