1) Floyd Mayweather Jr won World Welterweight title of Boxing:
--> American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has won the unified World Welterweight title of World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Association.
--> Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao from Philippines on a unanimous decision with Judges Scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 in 12 rounds of intense boxing.
--> The legendary bout termed as ‘Fight of the Century’ was played at iconic MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

2) Chelsea claim English Premier League title 2015:
--> Chelsea won their first Premier League title for five years as Jose Mourinho's side produced a typically stubborn display to grind out a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace at a jubilant Stamford Bridge on 3 May 2015.
--> Chelsea have 83 points from 35 games and now cannot be surpassed by closest rivals Manchester City.

3) National Film Awards presented by President:
--> President Pranab Mukherjee presented the 62nd National Film Awards on 3 May 2015 at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi.
--> Shashi Kapoor, honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke award this year, couldn’t attend and the veteran actor will be feted in Mumbai soon.

5) Aditya Birla Group consolidates apparel business into one entity:
--> In a major restructuring exercise, Aditya Birla Group on 3 May 2015 announced merger of all its branded apparel businesses into one entity, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd, through an all-share deal.
--> The new entity will have a combined turnover of Rs 5,290 crore and a retail network of 1,869 exclusive stores, becoming the largest pure play fashion company in the country.
--> Under the scheme of arrangement, the apparel businesses of group holding company Aditya Birla Nuvo and of another group firm Madura Garments Lifestyle Retail Ltd would be demerged into listed firm Pantaloons Fashion & Retail Ltd (PFRL).

6) World Press Freedom Day 2015 observed:
--> World Press Freedom Day is observed on 3 May every year across the world.
--> The theme of 2015 is: Let Journalism Thrive! Towards better reporting, gender equality and media safety in the digital age.

--> Several monuments situated in the vicinity of the 2,000 year-old Lichchhavi-era Buddhist shrine situated on top of a hill in western Kathmandu have been damaged, though the main stupa has remained intact during the 7.9-magnitude earthquake.

1) Delhi's Indira Gandhi International adjudged World's Best Airport:
--> Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been adjudged the world's best airport for the year 2014, under the category of handling 25 to 40 million passengers per annum, officials said.
--> Airports Council International (ACI) presented the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award to IGIA at a ceremony of the ACI Asia-Pacific/World Annual General Assembly on April 28 in Jordan.
--> IGIA bettered its ranking from second position for the years 2011, 2012 and 2013 to emerge on top in 2014.
--> Delhi International Airport Private is a joint venture between the GMR Group, Airports Authority of India, Fraport and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad. 

2) 14th edition of Indo-French naval exercise VARUNA concluded:
--> 14th edition of Indo-French naval exercise Varuna concluded on 2 May 2015 in Goa.
--> The naval exercise concluded in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar along with Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command.
--> The ten day long exercise commenced on 23 April 2015 and included both a harbour and sea phase in Goa. In this edition of exercise, French Navy was represented by the Aircraft Carrier Charles de Gaulle and Indian side was represented by Aircraft carrier INS Viraat.

3) Maharashtra banned 'Horn OK Please' for trucks:
--> Maharashtra government on 30 April 2015 issued a circular banning the use of the phrase “Horn Ok Please” on the rear side of commercial vehicles.
--> The phrase is part and parcel of Indian of commercial vehicles, such as trucks and tempos, across the country.
--> It was coined basically to allow vehicles to overtake on narrow roads.
--> This order was passed by Maharashtra State Transport Department as it is of the view that this phrase (“Horn Ok Please”) gives licence to motorists to honk unnecessarily and there have been numerous complaints of excessive honking in silence zones such as near hospitals, schools and colleges.

4) Journalist Dr. Prannoy Roy awarded RedInk Lifetime Achievement Award 2015:
--> Dr Prannoy Roy, the executive co-chairman of NDTV, was conferred the RedInk Award for lifetime achievement at a function in Mumbai.
--> The award, comprising a trophy and a citation, has been instituted by the Mumbai Press Club.

5) Haryana Government launched seven IT based e-services in state:
--> Haryana Government has launched seven IT based e-services in the State at Panchkula district.
--> The service was launched by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

--> The seven services include e-Stamping, Jeevan Pramaan, Revised State Portal, Aadhaar-enabled biometric Attendance System, Mobile app and Aadhaar-linked registration of birth.

1) Microsoft named its next Web Browser as Edge:
--> Microsoft on 29 April 2015 announced Edge as its next Web Browser’s name at the Build Developer Conference held at San Francisco in California, USA.
--> Earlier, Microsoft had called it as Project Spartan; a code name given by the company.
--> The browser is intended to replace the Internet Explorer (IE) in future.

2) CNR Rao conferred with Japan's highest civilian award:
--> Eminent scientist C N R Rao was conferred with Japan's highest civilian award for his outstanding contributions to science and Indo-Japanese science coperation.
--> The Emperor of Japan conferred the country's highest award, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, on the Bharat Ratna awardee, a release by Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research said.
--> Rao is also the only Indian to be elected as a foreign member of the Japan Academy in Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research.

3) Surender Singh is the new DG of Central Industrial Security Force:
--> Senior IPS officer Surender Singh has been appointed as the new chief of central paramilitary force CISF.
--> Singh, a 1980-batch police officer of West Bengal cadre, is at present serving as a Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
--> Surender Singh will succeed Arvind Ranjan who had retired as the DG of the CISF and will have tenure of till August 2016.
--> An order in this regard was issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

4) DRDO scientist conferred prestigious RIN fellowship:
--> Senior DRDO scientist G Satheesh Reddy, who played a critical role in the Agni 5 programme, has been conferred the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal Institute of Navigation, a first for an Indian.
--> Established in 1947, Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) is one of the world's leading professional bodies dedicated to advancement of navigation around the world.

5) Rafael Nadal received Spanish award:
--> Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to tennis star Rafael Nadal, who stated that "victory is accomplished through work".

6) Mobile number portability deadline extended by 2 months:
--> The Department of Telecom has extended the deadline to fully implement the mobile number portability across the country by another two months.
--> The earlier deadline to roll out ‘full MNP’ was May 3.

7) International Labour Day celebrated across the world:
--> International Labour Day also known as the International Worker's Day and May Day which was celebrated on international level to promote and encourage the international labour associations.

8) NASA's Messenger spacecraft crashed into Mercury, ends mission:
--> NASA's Messenger spacecraft has crashed into the surface of Mercury, ending its historic 11-year mission that provided valuable data and thousands of images of the planet.
--> MESSENGER was launched on August 3, 2004, and it began orbiting Mercury on March 18, 2011.

--> The spacecraft completed its primary science objectives by March 2012.

1) Logo for International Day of Yoga launched:
--> The logo for International Day of Yoga was launched on 29 April 2015 by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik.
--> The United Nations General Assembly had on December 11 adopted an India-led resolution declaring June 21 as the 'International Day of Yoga'.
--> The logo was selected by the Committee of Yoga experts, which was constituted by Union Ministry of AYUSH and has been approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
--> The idea to observe 21 June as the ‘International Day of Yoga’ was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014 during his speech at United Nations General Assembly (UN-GA).

2) Mukesh Khanna appointed chairperson of CFSI:
--> Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, who made his way into the hearts of children with his popular superhero TV series "Shaktimaan", has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Children Film Society of India (CFSI).
--> The 56-year-old actor has taken over the charge from actor-director Amole Gupte, who resigned in June 2014.
--> Khanna made his debut on the small screen with B R Chopra's "Mahabharat" where he gained much fame after he played Bhisham Pitamah in the epic.

3) Govt aims to start building 'Bharat Mala' in two years:
--> The road ministry's ambitious plan to construct a road network along the land border might be rolled out within two years.
--> The scheme, called Bharat Mala, envisages 5,000 km of roads - both construction and upgrades - for Rs 12,000 crore. The road network will stretch from Gujarat in the west to Mizoram in the east and cover 10 other states.

4) India extended e-tourist visa scheme to 31 more countries:
--> India will provide e-tourist visa to 31 more countries, including France and Canada, enabling the citizens of these nations easy entry to the country.
--> The e-tourist visa had been launched in November last year for 45 countries from nine designated Indian airports.
--> With the latest addition, the total number of countries under this scheme will go up to 76.

5) India ranked 13th in generating power from nuclear source:
--> India stands at the 13th place world-wide in generating electricity from nuclear source and expects to increase the installed nuclear power capacity from 5,780 MW to 10,080 MW by 2019.
--> This is according to the data published in 2014 by Power Reactor Information System of International Atomic Energy Agency.

6) Mamata Banerjee declared Nadia first 'open defecation-free' district in India:
--> West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 30 April 2015 declared Nadia as the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) district in the country.
--> Thanking UNICEF and the World Bank for helping the district achieve this feat, Ms. Banerjee declared April 30 as the “Nirmal Bangla Diwas” to be observed in the years to come.
