1) S Christopher appointed DRDO chief:
--> Eminent scientist S Christopher was
on 28 May 2015 appointed as Director General of the Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) for a two-year term.
--> Christopher is presently
Distinguished Scientist and Programme Director (airborne early warning and
control system) and Director, Centre for Air-Borne Systems in the DRDO.
--> Another scientist G S Reddy was
appointed as the Scientificc Adviser to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for a
two-year term.
2) K Sivan appinted VSSC Director:
--> K Sivan will be the new director of
the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thumba.
--> He will succeed M Chandradathan who
is stepping down on 29 May 2015.
--> Sivan is currently director, Liquid
Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) which has its Headquarters at Valiamala,
Thiruvananthapuram.
3) India tops world hunger list with 194 million people:
--> India is home to 194.6 million
undernourished people, the highest in the world, according to the annual report
by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations released.
--> This translates into over 15 per
cent of India’s population, exceeding China in both absolute numbers and
proportion of malnourished people in the country's population.
4) Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar is Mysuru’s new
‘Maharaja’:

2. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana
When
announced: In Union Budget 2015-16 presented by Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley in Loksabha on 28 February 2015.
When
launched: 9 May 2015
Who
launched: Prime Minister of India Shri.Narendra Modi
Launched
from where: Kolkata
Note: Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima
Yojana is for Life Insurance Cover. Here are the features of this scheme.
Eligibility:
Available to people in the age group of 18 to 50 and having a bank account.
People who join the scheme before completing 50 years can, however, continue to
have the risk of life cover up to the age of 55 years subject to payment of
premium.
Premium:
Rs.330 per annum. It will be
auto-debited in one instalment.
Payment Mode: The payment of premium will be directly
auto-debited by the bank from the subscribers account.
Risk Coverage: Rs.2 Lakh in case of
death for any reason.
Terms of Risk
Coverage: A person has to opt for the scheme every year. He can also prefer to give a long-term option
of continuing, in which case his account will be auto-debited every year by the
bank.
Who will implement this Scheme?: The scheme will be offered by Life
Insurance Corporation and all other life insurers who are willing to join the
scheme and tie-up with banks for this purpose.
Government
Contribution:
(i)
Various other Ministries can co-contribute premium for various
categories of their beneficiaries out of their budget or out of Public Welfare
Fund created in this budget out of unclaimed money. This will be decided separately during the
year.
(ii)
Common Publicity Expenditure will be borne by Government.

1) AFSPA withdrawn from Tripura after 18 years:
--> The Tripura government on 27 May
2015 lifted the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, (AFSPA) from the state with
immediate effect, chief minister Manik Sarkar announced.
--> Armed Forces Special Power Act
(AFSPA) was in effect for the last 18 years to curb insurgency.
--> According to Chief Minister Manik
Sarkar this decision was taken in the meeting of the council of ministers
--> The Act was promulgated in the state
in February 16, 1997 due to relentless violence and bloodshed.
2) Trevor Bayliss appointed England cricket team's head
coach:

Age Criteria for SSC CGL 2015 is now 1 January 2015| Last Date extended
Friends.. Good News for many who were
disappointed with the Notification of SSC CGL 2015 seeing the age criteria. In
the initial notification for CGL 2015 published by SSC on 02.05.2015, age Limit
was fixed as on 1st August, 2015. But now SSC has revised that and the latest
notification issued by SSC read as follows:
"The Commission has received
Government approval vide DOPT letter No 24012/02/2015- Estt (B), Part dated
22.05.2015 to allow the candidates fulfilling the age criterion on 01.01.2015 to also apply in response to the advertisement
for Combined Graduate Level Examination 2015 as one time measure." For
more details read the official notification from the below link.
Further the last date of receipt of
application was also extended. Earlier Closing date for receipt of offline
application was fixed as 01.06.2015 and now it has been extended upto 11.06.2015.
In respect of Online applications, earlier the last date was 28.05.2015 and now
it has been extended upto 09.06.2015 (5:00PM)
for Part 1 registration and 11.06.2015 (5:00 PM)
for Part – II Registration.
