After four
decades, Aung San Suu Kyi comes to India
Myanmar’s
opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in India (13 November 2012) after a
gap of nearly four decades as part of New Delhi’s ongoing engagement with the
democratic and multi-party polity in Nay Pyi Taw. Ms. Suu Kyi, who is visiting
India on the invitation of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, will be having various
programmes during her nearly week-long stay. Ms. Suu Kyi spent several years in
India during her early days when her mother Daw Khin Yi was Ambassador to
India.
Djokovic wins ATP World Tour Finals
Novak
Djokovic of Serbia beat Rodger Federer 7-6(6), 7-5 on 12 November in the
championship match at the ATP finals. It was Djokovic’s second victory at the
year-end tournament for the top eight players in the world. He also won in
2008, when the tournament was in Shanghai. Meanwhile Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan
Bopanna lose the doubles final to Marc Lopez and Marcel Granollers
United Nations declares November 10 as ‘Malala Day’
The
United Nations has declared November 10 as 'Malala Day' in honour of Pakistani teenage
rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in
October for campaigning for girls' education.
Mohammad Azharuddin’s life ban lifted by Andhra
Pradesh High Court
Former
India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin’s life ban lifted by Andhra Pradesh High
Court. The High Court struck off the lower court’s order which justified the
life ban on Azharuddin in 2000 by BCCI. In 2000, the BCCI conducted an internal
inquiry following the publication of the CBI report then and K. Madhavan who
led the inquiry concluded that Azharuddin was guilty of match-fixing and the
three others had links with bookmakers.
Rashmi Kumari wins World Carrom Championship
Rashmi
Kumari is an International Carrom Champion from Bihar, India. She won the World
Carrom Championship held at Colombo, Srilanka.
Irom Sharmila ‘Iron Lady of Manipur’ completes 12
years fast
The
'Iron Lady of Manipur' Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been on a hunger strike
since 2000 demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), has
completed 12 years of fast. Sharmila, a civil rights activist, began her hunger
strike after the death of 10 people in an alleged encounter with the Assam
Rifles at Malom valley in Imphal on November 2, 2000. At present, she is in
judicial custody where she is forcibly fed through her nose.
Government to digitize cable TV network in 38 more
cities
The
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has started phase two of its campaign
to digitise the cable TV network in the country. In this phase, 38 cities in 15
states will be covered by March 31, 2013. The Government has decided to digitize
Cable TV network in thirty eight cities, spread over 15 States, by 31st March
next year in the second phase.
Sonia opens rail coach factory at Lalganj (Rae
Bareli)
Rail
Coach Factory was inaugurated by Congress president Sonia Gandhi at Lalganj in
Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency. Rae Bareli (Lalganj) factory is the 3rd of
its kind, after the Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, Tamil Nadu, and the Rail
Coach Factory, Kapurthala, Punjab. The total cost of the project is Rs. 2,500
crore, and Rs. 800 crore has already been invested.

Asian Kabaddi Championship as India walks out in protest
Pakistan
on 6 November 2012 was declared champion of the Asian Kabaddi Championship
after Indian team walked out from the field in a protest against the referee’s
decision of penalizing the Indian Coach.
SARAL to boost remote sensing ability of India
With
the launch of SARAL satellite carrying AltiKa and an Argos-3 instrument2 is
scheduled to be launched on December 2012 and with this the remote sensing
ability of the country will get a boost up.
Bhupathi- Bopanna clinches ATP World Tour Masters
1000
The
duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna lifted their first ATP World Tour
Masters 1000 title by vanquishing Pakistan’s Aisam- Ul- Haq Qureshi and
Netherlands’ Jean- Julien Rojer in the final of the BNP Paribas Masters.
Ruchir Sharma bags Tata Literature First Book
Award.

First Book Award for his Breakout Nations: In Pursuit of the Next Economic
Miracles at the Mumbai Litfest.
BCCI awards 2011-12
BCCI
will honor Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli with Polly Umrigar Award at its
Annual Awards ceremony to be held on November 21, 2013 in Mumbai. Sachin will
be honored for his 100th century while Virat will awarded for being India’s top
international cricketer of 2011-12. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar will be
receiving the prestigious Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.
Gulzar honored with Indira Gandhi National
Integration award
Famous
lyricist, poet and film director, Gulzar has been conferred with the Indira
Gandhi National Integration Award. The award was given to mark the 28th death
anniversary of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Lionel Messi wins “European Golden Boot”
Star
footballer of Barcelona, Lionel Messi, bagged European Golden Boot Award. The
award has been given to him in recognition to his record 50 goals scored in the
Europe’s domestic football league.
New CRR at 4.25%
The
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cut the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by 25 basis points
from 4.5 to 4.25 percent.
