1) Narendra Modi in Time magazine’s Person of
the Year shortlist: BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is among
Time magazine’s shortlisted candidates for its ‘Person of the Year’ title and
has emerged as an early favourite among the readers in an online poll. Time has
shortlisted 42 global leaders, entrepreneurs and celebrities for its ‘Person of
the Year 2013’ and will announce the winner next month. Other candidates in
fray are Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US President Barack Obama,
Pakistani teenage education activist Malala Yousafzai, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos,
NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and even the new heir to the British throne
Prince George.
2) Constitution Day observed: Constitution Day was observed across India on
26 November 2013 to honour the Constitution of India. The Constitution of India
was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, which came into
force on 26 January 1950.
3) Fifth anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai
attacks-Tributes paid to martyrs, victims:
India marked the fifth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks that
jolted the world, five years ago. The dastardly attacks on India's financial
capital by 10 LeT terrorists lasted 60 hours, killed 166 including 26
foreigners, and left 300 injured.
4) Rohit Sharma signed up with Adidas:
Sport and apparels brand Adidas has roped in cricketer Rohit Sharma to be
endorse its range of products. Rohit, who is also the captain of Indian Premier
League team Mumbai Indians, was welcomed into team Adidas by master blaster
Sachin Tendulkar.
5) Amar Chitra Katha unveils comics on Kurien;
plans on Dhyanchand, KD Jadhav: Amar Chitra Katha (ACK), well-known publishers
of children’s graphic comics is planning to immortalise sports legends Dhyan
Chand and K D Jadhav, too, in its series on India’s “Visionaries”. The popular
publication has sold the maximum numbers on legends like Mother Teresa, Jim
Corbett, Salim Ali and JRD Tata, Reena Puri, said the Editor of the Group on
the sidelines of a function where ACK unveiled an illustrated graphic comics on
life and times of the late Dr Verghese Kurien, Father of White Revolution, on
his 92nd birth anniversary on Tuesday.
6) YES Bank signed multi-year deal with Hockey
India League: Mid-sized private sector lender Yes Bank announced a multi-year
deal with the Hockey India League (HIL) commencing with the 2014 season. In the
inaugural season, 70 top domestic players including the Indian national side as
well as 50 international players who are part of the national squads of
Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Malaysia, Spain,
and Argentina played for five franchise teams. Six franchise teams will feature
in the second season of the Hero Hockey India League to be held from January 25
to February 23, 2014. Rana Kapoor, Managing Director and CEO, Yes Bank said:
“Through our dedicated Sports Banking proposition, we are committed to provide
a robust financial infrastructure to support sports through customised banking
solutions for various hockey associations, teams and players.”
7) Monster storm Lehar hits open waters, aims
at AP coast: Very severe cyclone Lehar has left the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands, its first port of call, and has hit the open waters of the Bay of
Bengal. It will now wheel along a rather straight highway that takes it towards
the Andhra Pradesh coast, its final destination.
8) Aarushi's parents sentenced to life in jail
for double murder: A day after pronouncing the dentist couple, Rajesh and
Nupur Talwar, guilty of murdering their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and
domestic help Hemraj, a special CBI court on Tuesday handed them the minimum
punishment of life imprisonment for the crime.
9) Gullapalli N. Rao gets award:
Gullapalli N. Rao has been honoured with the `Outstanding humanitarian service
award’ by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The founder and Chairman of
the Hyderabad-based, LV Prasad Eye Institute, Rao has been recognised for the
eye care delivery model which he created with the Institute and his
contributions to prevention of blindness globally.
10) RBI widens infrastructure sector lending
sub-category: Reserve Bank widened
the definition of infrastructure lending including hotels with project costing
more thanRs. 200 crore as well as convention centres with project worth Rs. 300
crore.
11) 6 killed in bomb blast in village near
Kudankulam nuclear plant: At least six people, including three girls, were
killed when country bombs exploded in a house at Tsunami Colony, near the
Kudankulam nuclear plant, around 7pm on Tuesday. The bombs were allegedly
stocked by some villagers following a clash with another group. Three houses
caved in due to the impact of the explosion.
