Jain wins 2014 Waislitz Global Citizen Award: A young Indian has won a
prestigious global citizen award and USD 100,000 cash prize for his work to
build community sanitation facilities, an area that aligns with Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's commitment to ending open defecation, organisers of the award
said. Anoop Jain was named recipient of the 2014 Waislitz Global Citizen Award
for his "exemplified values of a Global Citizen" through his work in
founding Humanure Power (HP) in Bihar in 2011 that builds community sanitation
facilities in rural India.
3) Georgetown
University appointed first Hindu priest: The Georgetown University has
appointed its first Hindu priest —a woman — to serve the religious needs of its
Hindu students, whose number has increased in recent years. Pratima Dharm, who
recently retired as the first Hindu chaplain in the U.S. Army, has been
appointed as the first Hindu chaplain at the Georgetown University, a move
welcomed by the Hindu students of this top private research university. Founded
in 1789, it is the oldest Jesuit and Catholic university in the U.S.
4) Jet Airways appointed Cramer Ball as new CEO: Jet Airways announced the appointment of its new CEO, aviation specialist Cramer Ball, after its earlier chief quit in January. The airline's activities were since that time being managed by Director and Manager Gaurang Shetty, who will continue to lead it "till the requisite approvals are obtained and Ball assumes charge as the CEO," said a Jet spokesperson. Jet's last CEO, Garry Kenneth Toomey, had quit in mid-January, barely seven months after taking charge of the airline.
