1) Frenchman Lavillenie, Kiwi Adams are Athletes of Year: Pole vault world record holder Renaud Lavillenie and Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams were named World Athletes of the Year at an IAAF gala in Monaco on 22 November 2014. It marked the first time that field event athletes had won both awards and the first time a male pole vaulter or a female thrower collected the honours, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said. Frenchman Lavillenie, 28, set the world record of 6.16 metres in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk in February, breaking Sergei Bubka's 21-year-old mark. He also won 21 of 22 competitions.

2) K Srikanth lost in Hong Kong Open semis: India's campaign in the Hong Kong Super Series came to an end after young shuttler Kidambi Srikanth suffered a three-game loss to top seed Chen Long of China in the semi-finals of the men's singles event of the USD 350,000 event. Srikanth, who broke into the top 10 on Thursday following his historic win at China Open Super Series Premier, went down 17-21, 21-19, 6-21 to world champion Chen in a match that lasted over an hour in Kowloon. 

3) India women thrash Nepal 6-0 to win SAFF football championship: India clinched their third South Asian women's football championship on Friday, thrashing Nepal 6-0 in a one-sided final in Islamabad. Ngangom Bala Devi was the star of the show, bagging four goals and running the Nepalese defence ragged. The win cements India's place as the dominant force in women's football in the region -- they have won all three editions of the championship since it was launched in 2010.
