1) Russian
President Vladimir Putin arrived in India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi
welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin on his arrival in India, saying he
looks forward to a “productive visit that will take India-Russia ties to newer
heights.” As Putin arrived on a 24-hour visit for the annual bilateral summit,
Modi tweeted his welcome in Russian and then in English. He wrote on his
official twitter handle that he is “delighted” to welcome Putin to India.
2) India
thrash Belgium 3-2, to enter Champions Trophy semis: India stormed into the
semi-finals of the hockey Champions Trophy after thrashing Belgium 4-2 in the
quarter finals at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar. The team will face
arch-rival Pakistan, which beat the Netherlands in the other quarter-final and
will be looking to take the revenge for the Asia Cup defeat.
3) Virat
Kohli scored fighting century against Aussies; becomes third debut captain in
test history to acheive milestone: Virat Kohli on 11 December 2014 became
the third cricket player in Test match history to score a century on his debut
as captain. Kohli notched up his seventh century in his 30th Test. Kohli's
impressive 184-ball innings of 115 on day three propelled the tourists to 369
for five at stumps after Australia declared on 517 for seven before the start
of play. There was a heart-in-mouth moment when he first arrived at the crease
though, with Mitchell Johnson's short-pitched delivery hitting him full-on in
the helmet.
4) Ding
first Asian to clinch world number one spot: China's Ding Junhui on 11
December 2014 became the first Asian player to take the world number one
snooker ranking after a record-setting season which saw him claim five major
titles. The 27-year-old from Yixing is only the 11th man to be world number one
after Ray Reardon, Cliff Thorburn, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins,
Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and Judd Trump.
5) YouTube
gives Indian users option to watch video offline: YouTube on 11 December
2014 said it was giving Indian users the option to watch videos even when they
are offline through its mobile application, as the video service owned by
Google looks to boost its usage in the country. The new offline feature for the
You-Tube app lets people take videos offline, using WiFi or their data plans.
Once taken offline, the videos can be viewed without an Internet connection for
up to 48 hours.
6) Delhi
High Court ordered Xiaomi to suspend smartphone sales in India: The Delhi
High Court in an interim order has restrained Xiaomi as well as e-commerce firm
Flipkart from selling in India handsets of the Chinese mobile maker that run on
the technology patented by Ericsson. The court has also restrained Xiaomi or
its agents from making, assembling, importing or offering for sale its devices
which are infringing the mobile phone technology patented by Ericsson. The two
firms have been order to stop selling infringing devices until February 5, when
the court is due to hear the case. Xiaomi entered India in July this year and
has been a huge hit among customers in a market that has at least 80 different
phone makers including Samsung and a bunch of domestic firms.
7) Modi
and Putin inaugurated 'World Diamond Conference' at Vigyan Bhawan: Prime
Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin jointly inaugurated
'World Diamond Conference' at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The conference is a
joint effort of the World Diamond Mark Foundation (WDMF), the Gem &
Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and supported by the Ministry of
Commerce and Industry of India.
8) Aadhar-enabled
biometric attendance soon: The Centre has decided to introduce
Aadhar-enabled biometric attendance system in its offices across the country.
The system will be installed at all the offices in Delhi by December 31. At
other places it may be installed by the Republic Day, January 26, next year.
The manual system of attendance would be phased out accordingly. “The equipment
will be procured by the Ministries/departments as per specifications of the
Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) on the
Directorate-General of Supplies and Disposals rate contract from authorised
vendors,” said an official release.
