1. Countdown for launch of
IRNSS-1G begins:
--> The countdown for the launch of
seventh and final navigation satellite IRNSS-1G began on 26 April 2016 at 9:20
AM at Sriharikota.
--> The navigation satellite will be
launched on 28 April 2016 on board India's versatile launch vehicle PSLV C33.
--> The IRNSS 1G will complete the
number of fleets in space for India to establish its own reliable navigation
satellite system.
--> As part of the navigation system,
other six satellites have already begun functioning.
2. Five MPs takes oath as
Rajya Sabha members:
--> New Rajya Sabha members including
Mary Kom, Subramanian Swamy, Swapan Dasgupta, Narendra Jadhav and Sukhdev Singh
Dhindsa took oath on 26 April 2016 as the nominated member of the upper house.
--> Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari
administered the oath of office to the members.
--> Former MP and cricket commentator
Navjot Singh Sidhu, journalist Swapan Dasgupta, Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi and
economist Narendra Jadhav have also been nominated by the Prime Minister's
Office for the Rajya Sabha membership.
3. Panic button must in
mobile phones by next year:
--> From January 1 next year, all mobile
phones sold in India will come with a panic button enabling users, especially
women, to send out distress signals in case of an emergency.
--> No mobile handset will be sold in
India without the facility of identifying the location through Satellite based
GPS from January 2018.
4. Mairaj bags India's first
silver at ISSF World Cup:
--> Indian shooter Mairaj Ahmed Khan
made a successful start to his campaign at the ISSF World Cup by winning a
silver medal in men's skeet event in Rio de Janeiro.
5. World Intellectual
Property Day observed on 26 April 2016:
--> Every year World Intellectual
Property Day (WIPD) is being observed on 26 April to highlight importance of
intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs,
copyright) in encouraging innovation and creativity.
-->The theme for 2016 is “Digital
Creativity: Culture Reimagined“.
6. India to host 2018
Commonwealth Judo Championships:
--> India is going to host the 2018
Commonwealth Judo Championships in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
--> It was announced by the Judo
Federation of India (JFI).
7. Mohun Bagan and Jeje
Lalpekhlua named FPAI Player of the Year:
--> Professional football club Mohun
Bagan and India striker Jeje Lalpekhlua on 25 April 2016 won the Football
Players’ Association of India (FPAI) Indian Player of the Year award at its
annual awards function held in Mumbai.
