1. Pandemonium in Rajya Sabha over Agusta Westland deal:
--> Rajya Sabha witnessed pandemonium after BJP member Subramanian Swamy raised the Agusta Westland chopper deal and a letter by middlemen Christian Michel referring to Sonia Gandhi as the main person in the VVIP helicopter deal.

2. President Pranab Mukherjee embarks on two nation-tour:
--> President Pranab Mukherjee is on a 5 day state visit to Papua New Guinea and New Zealand from 28th April to 2nd May.
--> This is the first ever state visit of the President of India to Papua New Guinea and New Zealand which is expected to open a new era in bilateral relations of india with these countries.
--> Papua New Guinea is the largest among the pacific island countries with a population of less than 8 million.

3. Shyam Benegal panel submits report on censor board:
--> A government-appointed committee that was established to revamp the Central Board of Film Certification submitted its report to Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley on 27 April 2016.
--> During Jnauary 2016 centre had set up the committee, headed by filmmaker Shyam Benegal, to revamp the board.
--> The panel includes filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Actor Kamal Haasan, Ad guru Piyush Pandey and film journalist Bhawana Somaaya.

4. World's tiniest thermometer created using DNA:
--> Scientists have created the world's tiniest thermometer that is 20,000 times smaller than a human hair, using DNA structures that can fold and unfold at specifically defined temperatures.

5. Rio Olympics countdown clock hits 100 days:
--> The 100 days countdown to Rio 2016 began on 27 April 2016.

6. Deepika Kumari equals world record at Archery World Cup:
--> India's Deepika Kumari has equalled the World Record in the Women's Recurve event at the qualifying stage.
--> The 21-year-old tallied a score of 686 out of 720 in the qualifying round of the Shanghai World Cup, thereby equalling the record, held by Ki Boe Bae of South Korea.

7. SC extends President’s rule in Uttarakhand:

--> The Supreme Court on 27 April 2016 extended the stay on Uttarakhand High Court order quashing President's rule in the state.
