1) Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman inducted in BCCI's advisory
panel:
--> Former greats Sachin Tendulkar,
Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman on 1 June 2015 joined the BCCI in a
newly-constituted advisory panel to guide the board in all matters related to
the game.
--> BCCI's advisory panel will advise
the BCCI on various progressive steps which are needed to be taken, that will
enable Indian Cricket to be better prepared for the challenges of the future.
2) J. P. Rajkhowa sworn in as Arunachal Pradesh Governor:
--> Former IAS officer Jyoti Prasad
Rajkhowa was sworn in as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on 1 June 2015.
--> Rajkhowa will take over from his
duties from Lt. Gen Nirbhay Sharma, who has been shifted to Mizoram.
3) Mauritius designated Ameenah Gurib-Fakim as its first
woman president:
--> The government of Mauritius on 1
June 2015 designated Ameenah Gurib-Fakim as the Indian Ocean island nation's
new president, making her the first woman to hold the ceremonial position.
--> The appointment of Gurib-Fakim, an
internationally renowned scientist and biologist, is subject to parliament
approval, due to take place on 4 June 2015.
--> Gurib-Fakim, 56, will be the first
female president of the island, which gained independence from Britain in 1968
and which replaced Britain's Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state in 1992.
4) Atal Bihari Vajpayee to be conferred 'Friends of
Bangladesh Liberation War Award':
--> Bangladesh is set to honour former
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his outstanding support for the
country’s independence from Pakistan in 1971 when he was a Lok Sabha member.
--> Bangladesh will hand over Vajpayee’s
“Friends of Bangladesh Liberation War Award” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
during his upcoming visit to the country from June 6.
--> The then Indian prime minister
Indira Gandhi was the first “foreign friend” to be conferred with the
‘Bangladesh Liberation War Honour Award’.
--> Her daughter-in-law and Congress
party president Sonia Gandhi received the honour on her behalf in 2012.
5) Meena Hemchandra appointed as executive director of RBI:
--> Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has
appointed Meena Hemchandra as the executive director who would be in charge of
department of banking supervision.
--> She will also be in charge of
department of non-banking supervision and department of co-operative banking
supervision.
--> The appointment of Meena Hemchandra
comes as a vacancy for the post was created after G Padmanabhan retired on May
31, 2015.
6) Indian IT industry pioneer Hemant Sonawala passed away:
--> Hemant Sonawala, one of the founders
of the country's IT industry and chairman of Hinditron Group, passed away on
May 30 at the age of 78.
--> Sonawala was one of the founders of
the domestic IT industry, having started Hinditron way back in 1966 and its
computer division in 1971.
7) HDFC Bank to stop paper slips after cash withdrawals:
--> The second largest private sector
lender HDFC Bank has decided to discontinue issuing slips after cash
withdrawals at ATMs and will alert the customer through SMSes.
--> The bank is piloting the initiative
at a few ATMs at present and will roll out the same across its network of over
11,700 ATMs by the end of June.
--> Cash withdrawals account for the
bulk of transactions at ATMs and the bank witnesses an average of 2 crore cash
withdrawals every month at its ATMs.
8) Punjab to observe 2015-16 as 'year of development:
--> As a part of Punjab government’s
efforts to give further fillip to the “all round development of the State”,
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on 31 May 2015 said the year 2015-16 will be
observed as the “year of development“.
9) Increase in service tax came into effect:
--> Increase in service tax from 12.36
per cent to 14 per cent announced in the Union Budget this year, come into
force from 1 June 2015.
10) World Milk Day observed:
--> World Milk Day is a day established
by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to
recognise the importance of milk as a global food.
--> It has been observed on June 1st
