1) World Tourism Day 2015 celebrated:
--> Every year World Tourism Day (WTD)
is observed on September 27 to raise awareness about the importance of tourism.
--> Theme for 2015: “One Billion
Tourists, One Billion Opportunities“.
--> This year’s theme emphasizes the
impact of the tourism sector on economic growth, job creation and development.
2) Countdown begins for launch of ASTROSAT satellite:
--> The 50-hour countdown for the launch
of Astrosat, India’s first dedicated satellite for the study of astronomy,
begins at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
--> It will be launched at 10 AM on 28
September 2015.
--> The satellite will be put into a
low-earth, equatorial orbit by the polar satellite launch vehicle PSLV-C30.
--> India’s ace cueist Pankaj Advani has
won 2015 IBSF World Billiards Championship (Point Format) in Adelaide,
Australia.
--> It was his overall 14th World title.
--> He won 2015 IBSF World title by
defeating Peter Gilchrist of Singapore by 1168 points.
4) Lewis Hamilton won 2015 Japanese Grand Prix title of
Formula One:
--> Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of
Britain won 2015 Japanese Grand Prix title of Formula One.
--> This was his overall eight victory
of the season.
--> He has won Australia, China, Bahrain,
Canada, United Kingdom, Belgium and Italy 2015 Grand Prix titles of Formula
One.
--> Nico Rosberg finished second and
Sebastian Vettel finished third.
5) Syed Akbaruddin made India’s permanent representative at
the UN:
--> Syed Akbaruddin will take over as
India’s permanent representative in the UN in New York.
--> He was a familiar face as MEA’s
spokesperson.
--> Akbaruddin will replace Asoke
Mukerji who will be retiring.
6) Government’s holding in IDBI Bank to be reduced to 49%:
--> The government has firmed up plans
to bring down its holding in IDBI Bank to 49 per cent, marking a big bang start
to its commitment to reform state-run banks.
--> The IDBI Bank was established in
1964 by an Act of Parliament to provide credit and other financial facilities
for the development of the fledgling Indian industry.
7) Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won 2015 Guangzhou Open
women’s doubles title:
--> Indo-Swiss tennis pair of Sania
Mirza and Martina Hingis have won women’s doubles title of 2015 Guangzhou Open
Tennis Tournament.
--> In the final match they defeated
Chisese pair of Shilin Xu and Xiaodi You by 6-3, 6-1 score.
8) Manipur Governor Dr. Syed Ahmad passes away:
--> Manipur Governor Dr Syed Ahmad
passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
--> He was sworn in as the 16th Governor
of Manipur in May 2015.
9) First conference on contemporary relevance of Bhagvad
Gita held in UK:
--> A first of its kind conference on
the contemporary relevance of the Bhagvad Gita was held London, United Kingdom.
--> The conference was organised by
Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and High Commission of India.
