Teachers Day celebrated across the world- World Teachers’ Day is “a day was
first celebrated in 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization, devoted to appreciating, assessing, and improving the educators
of the world.” This internationally recognized day commemorates teachers around
the globe and their commitment to children and learning.

1) Jagan
begins hunger strike against AP bifurcation decision: YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP Y.
S. Jaganmohan Reddy today launched an indefinite hunger strike at his residence
here against the Centre’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
2) President
left for Turkey on second leg of tour: President Pranab Mukherjee today
left for Turkey, the second leg of his tour, after he finished his four-day visit
to Belgium where he attended a host of state events.
3) All-women
Sharia Court starts functioning in Pune: A Sharia Court conducted solely by
women with an aim to redress the grievances of Muslim women has started functioning
in Pune.
4) Expressing concern at the declining
number of dolphins in Ganga due to pollution, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
today proposed setting up a dolphin research centre to protect the national
aquatic animal.
5) Yatra
to Kedarnath, Badrinath shrines resumes: After a gap of nearly three
months, pilgrimage to Kedarnath and Badrinath temples formally resumed today as
the first batch of nearly 200 devotees paid obeisance at the two Himalayan
shrines, leaving behind horrific memories of the mid—June deluge that had
killed scores of people.
6) Veteran director Shyam Benegal will head the accomplished jury for the Seventh Asia

International
1) Obama nominates Indian-American to key
administration post: Indian-American Arun
M. Kumar has been nominated by US President Barack Obama to a key administration
post, giving him charge of international trade at a critical juncture when the
US is looking to increase its export.
2) Chilean President Sebastian Pinera has
supported India, Brazil, Germany and Japan’s bid for a permanent seat in United
Nations Security Council.
3) Typhoon
Fitow puts China on high alert: China today issued a red alert as typhoon
Fitow, packed with high-power gusts, approached the country’s southeast coastal
region.
4) India and Bangladesh have begun
cooperation in the power sector in a big way with the launching two projects -
a 500 MW grid and 1320 megawatt Maitri MW Thermal station.

1) Ratan
Tata to be inducted into National Academy of Engineering: India’s leading
industrialist Ratan Tata will be formally inducted into the National Academy of
Engineering in the US tomorrow for his “outstanding contributions” to
industrial development in India and the world over.

Vettel grabbed pole position for the Korean Grand Prix 2013, pipping
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
2) Kalapana

Mirza-Cara Black win China Open:
Sania Mirza won her second title in a row as she lifted the China Open
trophy with Cara Black, demolishing the challenge of Vera Dushevina and Arantxa
Parra Santonja in straight sets.

ban recommended on Jwala Gutta for IBL row: Badminton Association of
India's disciplinary committee has recommended a life ban on top Indian doubles
shuttler Jwala Gutta for trying to stop some players of her franchise Krrish
Delhi Smashers from playing a match against Banga Beats in the IBL.
5) Rafael
Nadal will return to world number one: Rafael Nadal will return to number
one in the world rankings after his semifinal opponent Tomas Berdych retired
injured at the China Open Saturday, capping an astonishing comeback from injury
for the 13-time Grand Slam champion. Nadal, who last toped the rankings in July
2011, has enjoyed a remarkable season.

1) S.R.
Bansal is Corporation Bank new CMD: After a gap of over three months,
Corporation Bank has a new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) in S.R. Bansal.
The CMD’s post at this public sector lender has been vacant since July 1 this
year after Ajai Kumar retired on June 30.
Prior to this elevation, Bansal was an Executive Director at Punjab
National Bank.
2) Chidambaram
confident of containing CAD under $70 b: Finance Minister P. Chidambaram
has expressed confidence that the current account deficit will be capped at
below $70 billion by the end of the fiscal.
3) RBI fixed the Reference Rate of Rupee
against US Dollar at 61.4050.

October 28 Mars mission on schedule: Isro:-
Isro on Saturday said the country's October 28 Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM)
was on schedule, dismissing suggestions that Nasa may not be in a position to
offer it deep space network support following government shutdown in the US.
2) Toyota
relaunches Innova at starting price of Rs 12.45 lakh: Automaker Toyota
Kirloskar Motor on Saturday launched all new version of its multi purpose
vehicle Innova, priced between Rs 12.45 lakh and Rs 15.06 lakh (ex-showroom
Delhi), as it looks to enhance sales during the festive season.
