>> Legendary playback singer Manna
Dey died at a city hospital in Bangalore early on Thursday morning, after
prolonged illness.
>> Dey, 94, who was admitted to
Narayana Hrudayalaya five months ago for respiratory problems, died of cardiac
arrest at 3.50am, a senior doctor at the hospital said.
>> In 2007 he was given the Dadasaheb
Phalke Award from Government of India.
>> He had given several hits songs
during his several decades long career which include 'Puchho na kaise maine
rain bitayee', 'Ay mere pyare watan, ay mere bichhade chaman' and 'Laga chunari
main daag', to name a few.
>> Born in the year 1919, he sang
many songs in different languages like Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi,
Bengali, Hindi, Assamese, Punjabi and Bhojpuri
