1) International Senior Citizen Day observed:
--> October 1 each year is observed as International Day of Older Persons as a mark of respect to them for their contribution in nurturing their younger ones.
--> Theme for this year is "Sustainability and Age Inclusiveness in the Urban Environment".
--> Almost 700 million people worldwide are now over the age of 60.
--> On 14 December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly designated 1 October the International Day of Older Persons.

2) Heena Sidhu wins gold medal at Asian Air Gun Championships:
--> India’s ace shooter Heena Sidhu has clinched a Gold medal in the 10-metre air pistol event of the Asian Air Gun Championships in New Delhi.
--> Heena shot a total of 197.8 points to finish at the top of the podium to win the gold medal.
--> Shweta Singh of India by scoring total of 197 points won Silver medal.

3) India to hold G20 Chair in 2018, Delhi may play host:
--> India is set to be the G20 Chair in 2018, and New Delhi could host the prestigious annual G20 summit.
--> China is chairing the G20 this time, following which Germany will in 2017 and then the Chair will pass on to India for 2018.
--> Members of G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, U.K., U.S, EU.

4) Union Government releases Commemorative Stamp on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar:
--> Department of Posts has released a Commemorative postal stamp on father of Indian Constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as part of his 125th Birth Anniversary celebrations.
--> It was released jointly by the Union Minister Social Justice & Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot and Union Minister for Communication & Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad.

5) V Shanmuganathan sworn-in as 17th Governor of Manipur:
--> V Shanmuganthan has sworn in as the 17th Governor of Manipur after taking oath at ceremony held at Raj Bhawan in Imphal.
--> He succeeded Dr. Syed Ahmed who had died in late in September 2015.
--> Chief justice of Manipur High Court Justice Laxmi Kant Mahapatra administered the oath of office to him as per the provisions of Article 159 of Constitution of India.

6) Google invites amateurs to send clips for 'India in a Day':
--> Google has invited India’s amateur filmmakers to a help create a full-length user-generated movie about daily life in the country.
--> In the project, called “India in a Day,” anyone can grab a camera or a phone to capture scenes from ordinary life on Oct. 10, and then upload their footage to http://indiainaday.withgoogle.com.
--> Selected clips will be made into a film under the guidance of directors Ridley Scott, Richie Mehta and Anurag Kashyap.

7) IDFC Bank started operations:
--> The new private-sector lender IDFC Bank launched its operations on 1 October 2015 with 23 branches for corporate and rural customers.
--> IDFC Bank will be offering 9.50 percent base rate to its customers, says Rajiv Lall, executive vice-chairman and MD of IDFC Bank.

8) India to host 2017 Shooting World Cup:
--> India will be hosting the combined shotgun/rifle/pistol World Cup in 2017 and based on the event's success, the NRAI will contemplate bidding for the 2018 prestigious World Championship, in which 70 Tokyo Olympic quota places will be up for grabs.

--> The first speaker of Lok Sabha, G.V. Mavlankar has founded the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) in 1951 with a view to promote and popularize the shooting sports in India.
